dealing w/ diaper rash
hi, was wondering for moms that have BTDT... my newborn son's skin seems to have turned extremely red everywhere that the diaper covers.. so not only his butt, but parts of his stomach and back that the diaper touches. I went to the doctor today and he did not seem concerned and told me to try another brand of diaper and put ointment which I have been doing but haven't seen any noticeable change. Not to mention he leaked all over from this new brand of diaper! Anyone go through this and what helped best to remedy it? Thanks!!!

dealing w/ diaper rash
Have you tried organic diapers? There is also Huggies pure and free...rashes take like a day or 2 to heal you won't see any changes right away...hope he heals fast!

Another thing to do so that it clears up is do not use wipes on it while it is sore. Use cotton buds and baby lotion. The wipes irritate the skin more.

try another brand of diaper and also, cornstarch powder to keep him dry and leave a barrier between his skin and diaper.

Did you try leaving LO out of the diaper for a bit? DD has the same thing where the diaper area is red mostly on her leg area. I try to leave her diaper off for a short period of time so that it can air out. It seems to also work for us

Re: dealing w/ diaper rash
Thanks all.. i have been wetting a heavy paper towel and using it as wipes (i also took a bunch from the hospital before I left). He was wearing pampers swaddlers but then i changed to huggies and that didn't work out (leaked everywhere)... I guess I will have to go out and look for another brand. I have also been using butt paste... i just feel so bad for him each time I change his diaper and see how red he is all over!

I didnt like Pampers Swaddlers at all. DS leaked every time. Changed to the regular pampers babydry and never have a leak.

dealing w/ diaper rash
Congrats on your baby!!
Since its warm, I would take advantage and have him naked as much as possible. I would sit on the couch on a towel, lay naked DD on my bare chest with a washcloth under her pelvis. The skin to skin is great for bonding, not having a diaper on is good for healing, and they pee/poop so little at that age you just might have to wipe off a little trickle.

Re: dealing w/ diaper rash
Have you tried the sensitive diapers? DD had a bad rash a few weeks ago and we had her on triple paste cream and sensitive diapers. its since cleared up.
Try keeping him really dry too. Leave him without a diaper for a little bit so he can air dry.

Re: dealing w/ diaper rash
congrats on your lo!
My ds had a bad diaper rash when he got home from the hospital..
This what helped, I went up a size in diapers so that they were loose, I never used babywipes..I literally had a box of tissues and a poland spring bottle of water at his changing table...I also used aquaphor at each changing...after a few days it went away. I also switched to pampers sensitive swaddlers...and have been using them ever since..no leaks, and no smells! I also didn't use babywipes till he was about 10weeks old..he was very sensitive!
Good luck!

Re: dealing w/ diaper rash
My DS tended to have bad diaper rash regardless of all the creams we put on him.
At a month old I swithced to organic diapers and the rashes were so much better within a few days.
He used them until he was a year old - they were more $$, but he was always diaper rash free with them.
