For the bathtub, I think it was the paint or the sealant on it. She said her kids drink a little of the bath water (who doesn't?) but played in the water, she thought maybe it might have been the toys that were rubbing against the tub that they then chewed on.

She bought a lead testing kit at Ace Hardware I think and it came up right away.

Actually I did some research last night after reading your post and the main issue is porcelain glazed tubs. Most of them have leachable lead on their surface apparently. And nearly every little kid ingests SOME water during every bath, whether intentionally or not! I'm going to buy a Lead Testing Kit today and see.

Yes, you are correct. That's what it was- porcelain glazed tub.

Do you use your crock pot a lot? Every brand except Cuisinart leaches lead, and Rival is the worst. Also, paint from toys and even a lot of plastic toys are known sources of lead.

No, we don't even own a crock pot. I'm guessing it must be a toy, I just can't imagine what toy it could be.

Check your toys against healthytoys.org. Melissa & Doug have tested positive for lead, so has Leapfrog.

eeeeeekkkkk!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

where on the healthytoys website can you check your toys?

In the blue search box, top right, you can type in any toy or brand and it will show you all the ones they have information on.

I've been searching all of his most used toys and found out the M&D Beginner Band set, which he plays with all the time, has high levels of lead Chat Icon. All of his other toys I've searched were none or low for lead. He was actually playing with the castanets from that set in the car the entire way to the lab yesterday for the bloodwork! That whole set in going straight into the garbage!

Okay, thanks, figured it out.

Does anyone know if toys don't come up in a general search (i.e. leapfrog, fisher price) does it mean they haven't been tested or that they are okay?

It means they haven't been tested. They only test a few select toys per brand (not sure how they choose) and if one comes up with no risk they list that too.

Glad everything worked out! The same thing happened to us. While it's infuriating, it's better than the baby actually having an issue...

I'm interested in finding more information about this. I can't find anything official about lead levels or recalls on crock pots. I though that the US regulated this kind of stuff? We use ours about once a week, I'm not sure the brand (out of town currently) but I think it's Rival. Was there a recall?

Any links that you could share would be appreciated.
