Did they automatically take your LO to the NICU after birth or only if their blood sugar is low? Please let me know which hospital it was and how recent. I really want my baby with me as long as her blood sugar is ok!
I’m becoming more and more unhappy with my OB’s office and might switch to a different OB and hospital which is why I’m not just asking about one particular hospital. If I don’t switch, I will be at Winthrop. Thanks!

Re: GD BTDT ladies
When I had my DD after a little bit they took her over to the nursery to watch her sugars. Honestly, it didn't seem like a rush though. I had my C-section and she was with us for a while before they took her over. We were at St. Charles in Pt. Jeff.
I'm 99.999% sure it's pretty standard practice to take them for monitoring soon after they are born when you have GD, I don't think that has anything to do with your OB or hospital.

Re: GD BTDT ladies
I delivered at Winthrop this past February. I had GD and high blood pressure and he was delivered early. He was with me the entire time, from recovery to rooming the 4 days (I had a c/s). He didn't have to do NICU and the only time he was away from me was for the nurses to weigh him and do his vitals.

My DD had critically low blood sugar when she was born so she went to the NICU, but would have anyway because I had a fever during labor. It took a few days for her sugars to stabalize and she wound up on a glucose drip. Had her sugars been normal and I didn't have that one elevated temp, I had no reason to think she'd go to the NICU.

My DD never went to NICU. I'm not sure when they checked her sugars, but they were fine.

Thanks everyone! P, I hope that's Winthrop's protocol now. I've seen a couple other posters say their baby was whisked off to the NICU at Winthrop. I'm hopeful my baby's sugars will be good and she'll be able to stay with me.

Just delivered at Winthrop 5 days ago and they tested DS blood sugars right away. They didn't go to NiCU with him and they tested his sugars every 4 hours for 12 hours. His levels were all good so he stayed with me the whole time. this was a concern of mine too but I was so happy he was with me all the time. good luck!

bananana7 - thats great news! when they had to check did they just check in your room or nursery?
I got a little nervous today cause I went to the prenatal center and was trying to find out best case/worse case scenario and couldn't quite get a definitive answer, sounded like half day to seven. But I was wondering if I could control by diet, and no medicine if it could be none.

I just delivered Friday at good Sam. They took my dd fairly quickly (1 hour) after delivery to check her sugar, but her numbers were fine I think they checked her every 4hours for 24 hours. She was in the reg nursery. I love my ob...dr.joseph Livoti delivered all 3 of my kids...love him!

Re: GD BTDT ladies
Gave birth at NSUH and they had to take DD to the Nursery no later than an hour after delivery. DH had her in the hallway for about 15-20 min bonding and I basically had her for a min or 2 being wheeled down the hallway on the way to recovery. They had to do the sugar level, weigh and clean her up. I wasnt happy about that but I was also very very tired and it gave DH some Daddy daughter time. Something I think he will cherish.

Re: GD BTDT ladies
I delivered at north shore. they tried to keep her with us. She was born at 9:30 am and they kept her with us until 130am that night/next morning when they said her sugar levels were just too low and it was critical that they put her in nicu. She recovered quickly and they brought her back less than 12 hours later. we were able to visit her in the nicu whenever we wanted.
