bundle me
Is this a product that people are using? I read on another forum that they are against safety regulations. I used one with DS, 8 years ago, and i dont remember if was worth it or not. TIA!

I'm using one. My sister used with all 4 of her kids and swears by it, so I'll be using it too.

Re: bundle me
I won't use it in the carseat, but I like it in the stroller! I have the regular bundle me and also the Cruise Time Stroller Wrap for when they were bigger.

Re: bundle me
we used one with my son and likely will this time.
not sure what another option is? we tried the "shower cap" style with my son, he kicked it off.
if you put the baby in a bunting, there is still a layer between the baby and carseat/straps so that would be the same issues as the bundle me.
with a newborn in Jan, what is another option?

I think we're going to skip it and try the JJ Cole Car Seat Cover; if that doesn't work then blankets. I keep hearing it's not safe to use the cover that goes in the car seat

I used it in the carseat last winter and it was the best thing. I can't see why it wouldn't be safe.

Re: bundle me
I used one.....there is no data that it is unsafe it just has not been tested. I am not saying it is safe but I am not saying it is unsafe. Car seat companies will not spend the money to test someone else's product so thats why there is no data.
I made the decision to use one and did not have an issue and DS was securely in the infant carrier and IMO it was not a risk.
Each person needs to make a decision and I didn't feel like there was a risk to my DS.

Agreed. There should be nothing in or around the car seat that didn't come with it.

That's not quite accurate.
If you read the manual on your car seat, it actually prohibits the use of a Bundle Me (or similar products, including bulky snow suits). It interferes with the harness and makes it impossible to tighten the straps as much as they should be. Loose straps makes the seat less safe for baby. By using it, you've also voided the warranty.

what is the difference between the bundle me thickness and a heavier sweater? nothing! if the straps are secure, the child isn't moving anywhere whether there is a layer between the child and the seat or not.
i understand the liability factor which is why I believe it is not recommended. Even if the bundle me becomes unsecure (the straps that secure it around the back come loose), that would not lessen how tightly your child is strapped into the seat, KWIM? I think there is a proper way TO USE it and an improper way.
Some parents do not know how much room should be between straps and shoulders or that the upper buckle should be nipple level. I believe that is more dangerous than a bundle me used properly.
Has there ever been a documented case where a child was harmed because of the use of a bundle me? Not because the child was not strapped into the seat properly?

Re: bundle me
interesting - i was just reading a blog by a person who checks carseats for a living. He mentions that he tells parents who want to use BundleMes to cut the back part of the bundleme out. The part where the harness straps go through.
Apparently it isnt new bundlemes that are the issue (with horizontal slats for straps) but OLD bundlemes that had vertical slats for straps. The vertical slats would twist the harness, pushing it towards the infants neck (now that makes sense!!!)
So, moms, maybe just cut the back out? No worry about bundle me interfering with harness Case closed.

Re: bundle me
All parents need to do what they're comfortable with. I was not, and listed my reasons why.
I didn't pull my information out of my ear. When I had my infant seat installed, they refused to do if there were any car seat accessories for the reasons I listed. It's equally dangerous as a seat that's harnessed incorrectly. When told by experts and my seat manual that bulky snow suits, Bundle Me's, or any after market products are unsafe, I listen.
FM CarSeatChris, who also installs and checks car seats professionally, if you want another opinion.
There have been cases, and I know of at least one on LI, but I don't know how to find them. My cousin is a litigator, and was part of the defense for a car seat manufacturer after a baby was injured in a crash. The family used something additional in the seat, and was held completely liable for the injuries because they went against the manufacturer's recommendations.

ITA. I had a late April baby the first time so it wasn't really necessary. My DD wasn't an infant, but was still in her infant seat this last winter and I just put tons of blankets on top of her and she seemed really comfortable. I honestly think it worked out better because I could easily remove them in the car if I had the heat on. I'm planning on using the shower cap style this time around. Everyone is nervous about different things, car accidents freak me out! I'd rather really follow all the "rules" in the car especially since their are really good alternatives.
I did use it last winter in DD's stroller and it was awesome so I'll def be using it in the toddler seat of the stroller again.
