bleeding after delivery question

This is my fourth baby, and I still have questions!!! I have been having abdominal pains that they can't explain. They put me on antibiotic to see if it was from some type of infection...

Anyway, my question is, they tell you that if you start to bleed again after it turns brown, to call. TMI, but I had brown discharge tuesday, then nothing at all until early wednesday morning when there was a small amount of red. Then again nothing at all throughout yesterday and all last night and all this morning, until a few minutes ago when it came gushing out bright red. Would 24 hours of not bleeding, and then bleeding again be reason to call? Or is this normal (with my others I had minimal bleeding so I truly have no idea)
