Need help on how to "wean" DS off monitor . . .
DS is 5. We have/use a sound only monitor. We had been stopping using it when he was about 3 1/2, but then we moved in with MIL and we all sleep with our bedroom doors shut, and we all have felt better using it.
We are moving to a house in August and DD is due in October and will have her own room.
How do I "wean" DS off the monitor?
I would wait til we moved, but I'm nervous moving to a new house. Add to it our bedroom won't be next to his (down the hall).
I'm not opposed to having two monitors, but #1 I feel DS shouldn't need it and #2 How do I do it with 2 monitors in 2 diff't rooms.
TIA

I personally wouldn't change a thing. Your son will be going through some major changes, new house, new sister, if a monitor makes him more comfortable, I say let it stay.

Are you weaning DS off the monitor, or you? How does he know if there is or isn't a monitor in his room? Does he talk to you through the monitor because he knows it's there?

I don't mind the monitor. I just feel like it's a crutch for him. He is aware of it and knows about it.
There was one night I was exhausted and forgot to turn it on, of course that is the night he wakes up from a bad dream and walks into our room hysterical b/c he called and called me and I didn't answer.
He calls to me (or DH) every morning or if he wakes at night. We've tried telling him he doesn't need to wake us if he wakes up & has to use the bathroom during the night or when he just wakes up in the morning. But he likes to call us.

DITTO!!
But how do I manage 2 different monitors??
I'd rather not go the 2 video monitor route. Mostly b/c DS doesn't need it and the $$$.

Use the existing video monitor for the new baby and buy a less expensive sound monitor for DS. I have seen sound only monitors for $20.
