Toronto or Montreal , Canada?
Has anyone ever been? Looking for a nice sightseeing location with lots to see/do for day and night. Give me your likes and dislikes. Are the hotels reasonable or super pricey? Amtrak is an affordable mode of transportation, just time-consuming.
Thank you.

Re: Toronto or Montreal , Canada?
It's been over 10 years since I've been to both places (we did both - Montreal first and then drove to Toronto), but I had liked Montreal better. To me, Toronto was very much a city and Montreal was more quaint and felt more of a getaway. It's more of an historic city. From what I remember, there are tons of boutique hotels there that offer deals.

We went to Montreal and took Amtrak... It was an 11 hour train ride, but I didn't mind it, I had a ton of audiobooks to listen to. Montreal is so beautiful, we saw Old Montreal, the Botanical gardens. Biosphere, Biodome, Mount Royal park. Art museums. Crescent Street has a lot of bars.
One comment would be check the calendar, Montreal has A LOT of festivals. We ended up having to change the days we wanted because of one of the largest festivals in the world.

Wow. I heard about the festivals. I'm sure it impacts the hotel rates though. As for the bars, ill keep crescent st in mind.

DH and I went to Montreal last minute for a UFC fight. We loved it, wished we planned more time to sight see. Lots of cafe's, parks, etc. Looked like a lot of fun. We drove up and didn't take long at all.

I've been to both, Toronto more times than Montreal. I prefer Toronto. I love the CN Tower and the Hockey Hall of Fame. Niagara Falls is on the way (although if you take the train, you won't get to stop). Lake Ontario is right there as well.
When we went to Montreal a few years ago, I found that a lot of places closed rather early and we found ourselves struggling to find something to do. Although, the Biodome was really cool to visit! The subway system was easy to navigate as well.

I have to look at the map but I wonder if you can take a day trip up there if you are vacationing somewhere in Maine.

It's about 5-6 hours depending on where in Maine. I think Saint John's New Brunswick is closer to Maine.
