I think DD is allergic to Amoxicillin...so what do they give them?
DD was sick on Friday (fever sore throat). We took her to the ped yesterday. They did a strep test and it came back a light positive. They prescribed Amoxicillin. I gave her one dose yesterday and by a few hours later she had a rash on her feet and hands. Called the ped she said to give her benadryl and stop the amoxicilllin. The rash is a little better but what do they prescribe for an antibiotic? She is much better today. Her throat doesn't hurt and no fever. Waiting for another call back from ped. Anyones DC allergic to Amoxcicillin? TIA

My dad is allergic to penicilin and amoxicillin. There are other antibiotics they can have, but I don't know name.

My dad is allergic to penicilin and amoxicillin. There are other antibiotics they can have, but I don't know name.
I am allergic to both as well. There are a bunch of antibiotics they can prescribe. I think I usually get Azithromycin or Doxycycline.
ETA- that is exactly what happened to me when I was given Amoxicillin.

my mom is allergic to penicillins. they give her erythromycin instead. she said the skin peeled off her hands and arms when she took it as a kid!!

DS is allergic to Augmentin and Amoxicillin. He broke out in a rash all over his body...mainly on his face and torso. He is given Omnicef when he needs an antibiotic.

Oh God I hope not at least I don't think so.
The Dr. just called back wants to see her again tomorrow to check out the rash to make sure it was an actual reaction to the Amoxicillin. She said if yes she will give Zithromax. The rash got slightly better with Benadryl. I stopped the antibiotics for now so we will see. Thanks everyone!!

Both my daughters are allergic..got head to toe rashes..there are a bunh of alternatives...thank god!
