Help! How do I get DS to swallow Amoxicillin?
DS has a double ear infection and eye infection. He NEEDS to take Amoxicillin, but we've tried everything and he just spits it out! If I mix it with food or milk, he notices and refuses to eat it/spits it out. We held his nose, and he just spit it right out. We tried to keep his mouth shut, and he choked and gagged on it. He's 18 months, and gets it from a dropper.
Any advice or suggestions? We've already wasted 1/2 the bottle and we only got one dose in him.

This may sound mean but this is what I had to do when Jordan was little. Put it in a syringe. Have someone hold him down. Put the syringe in the side of his cheek ALL the way in the back(where the jaw comes together) Hold his nose. The meds will roll right down his throat and holding his nose should make him swallow. This was not fun but it did work for us.

Thank you. We tried this, and he just spit it out again! But maybe I didn't get it far back enough. He clenches his little jaw shut too. It's so sad.

If you get it far enough back and release the meds slowly, it goes right into the throat and he won't be able to spit it. It is not an easy thing, I feel for you and him! When Jordan was little she fought us hardcore too. One night DH was at work, I was trying to give her meds, we both wound up on the floor crying. I called my neighbor in a moment of desperation(she had older kids) She showed me how to do this and I was so grateful.

I don't know if this will work, but this is what my mom did with us till we were like 8
Is it liquid, powder?
Well I think she put it in powder form (I think) she mixed with with water and sugar like a lot of sugar so when we tasted it, the texture, you could just feel little sugar granules and totally, you would just be focused on the sweet...
if your desperate maybe worth a try?

Re: Help! How do I get DS to swallow Amoxicillin?
We had a 10 day dose of it. We only got DS to take it for 4 days and we stopped. He would start screaming and yelling so hard (even before we got the med near him) that he would vomit everything he ate. It was such a struggle.
When we did get it in, we needed to hold him down and slowly get the medicine in his mouth with a medicine dropper.

Re: Help! How do I get DS to swallow Amoxicillin?
We gave DS Omincef recently, and he HATED it, until we added chocolate syrup to the medicine. Then he started asking for it.
He's 3, and the amount he needed to take was really too much to force down. If chocolate is okay for your DC, I highly recommend using it with the medicine.

The only think that worked for us was mixing it in with his chocolate milk.
