I was reading the thread on...
what you would like most at the hospital. Most people wrote lots of visitors and I do too! But I was just wondering...what happens in the hospital when you get out of delivery and your roommate has 900 visitors? Is there ever a period when it just mommy, daddy and baby? I cant imagine that its relaxing if I have a million visitors and my roomie has a million visitors. Just curious

Re: I was reading the thread on...
THis is the #1 reason I requested a private room at winthrop. Worth every penny, especially when I had a c/s for my first and was there 4-5 days. I just couldn't take the constant barage of people in and out, even if it was just for a short amount of time. I only told my immediate family so I wouldn't have a million people come and see me when I hadn't showered in days!

Re: I was reading the thread on...
At NS Manhasset, if you have a vaginal delivery you recover in the delivery room, and the baby stays in there with you that whole time (about an hour). Then you move to the maternity ward and they will bring the baby to you once it's cleaned up in the nursery and you can have visitors.
If you have a section, the baby is brought to the recovery room with you, and stays for about an hour also, but my friend told me that she was in recovery for several hours before she moved to maternity, so she had some time alone before she saw visitors.

My hospital also only has private rooms (unless they are all full - they you get the 'spillover room' with like 3 women. I pray that doesn't happen!!

At Winthrop the father was allowed from 10am-10pm, sibling and grandparents from 2-4, general from 6:30-8. So basically all day you have with just the three of you.

My hospital is all private rooms so luckily I won't have to deal with that.
I hope your hospital has certain hours for certain people otherwise that would be overwheming.

Re: I was reading the thread on...
I had a private room at Winthrop just for that reason. I knew I had a ton of visitors and I didn't want to annoy anyone if I had a roommate. I didn't want to be annoyed by their visitors either. I also was breastfeeding and wanted privacy.

Re: I was reading the thread on...
I also delivered at winthrop and I loved their schedule but the visitors were not to happy with it. I only had visitors durning the day the day I delivered and it was my parents and DH's parents. Winthrop is very strict with their policy and the baby is out durning the day for visiting but in the nursey durning the general public that's why I didn't mind that people came to see me. I also had a private room and it really was worth the extra money in my opinion.

I am excited because my room will be a newly redesigned single suite for one mom. The room is the labor/delivery/ and post partum room so you stay in one room the whole time. It is beautiful with hardwood floors, a wooden baby bassinet etc. Here is a pic:

I am delivering at St Charles too, they have I *think* only 2 private rooms and you have to pay extra for them and they are first come first serve, which stinks. When I had Damien at NSUH@Plainview I had a private room because of my c-section and it was heaven.
I am nervous about having a ton of people while I recover and am BF'd. They do however take the babies into the nursery for general visiting hours so hopefully it won't be that bad. I had such a wonderful experience at NSUH@Plainview, I am afraid I may be disappointed the secong time around.

Re: I was reading the thread on...
When I was in the hospital I was in a ward with 6 beds and it was such a pain in the arse, the girl in the bed next to me had so many visitors one night that it took a good ten minutes to go around the group for them to introduce themselves to each other...Hi, I'm Bob and I'm Linda's second cousin etc...it was really unfair. Also, they didn't get kicked out after visiting hours were officially over, so they were there at like 9 pm when I was dying for some rest.
Ugh. Won't do that again, next time, private room. Luckily for me, I got to labour in a private room, so it was okay, all 3 days of it during my induction.

Re: I was reading the thread on...
At my hospital, you can request a private room. It may not be guaranteed, but, I am so thankful that my sister's boyfriends mother knows the staff and she keeps telling me 'I will be taken care of". I hope she's right. My sister had a csection and had her own room for the 5 days. Visiting hours are: Dad: All day up till 10PM (I believe) Grandparents: I think start at maybe 4 or 5 All other vistors: 6-8
ETA: I already "Pre-registered" for my room.
