Re: Are these fees reasonable? Attorney related
$1100 is reasonable in my view. Average in the area where I work is $1100-$1300 for closing. Some charge more, some charge less. But I do think you get what you pay for. Those that charge less (I've heard as low as $700) tend to be closing factories, in my experience, who do not provide any personal attention and are rarely accessible to their clients. I would rather pay a few hundred dollars more for better service and peace of mind.
I think the poa fee is reasonable, too.
Most attorneys charge a flat fee for closing.

No, it's in the range for LI.
I mean, when you hire an attorney, you are not buying a commodity. You are paying for service, experience, etc., so rates vary.
When I closed on my house, we paid around $2000K... My husband grew up in Garden City and this was a friend of his father. I am an attorney myself, but I still thought it was worth every penny to get the expertise and years of experience of this attorney, esp. because there were some bumps with my deal.
Attorneys rates vary based on where they are located... attorneys in wealthier areas with wealthier clientele tend to charge more. Also, it may vary based on whether they are with a firm or a solo practitioner, whether they have an established client base or are just starting out and building a business, etc.
As a buyer, I think it's important to choose an attorney who you trust and are confident in, and whose rates you can afford. If you've done that, it wouldn't bother me if some attorneys charge a bit less (because there are always some who charge more).

Well, if you weren't super thrilled with the $1500 one, it doesn't hurt to talk to the one your friend recommended and see if it makes more sense to use her. I would interview her to make sure she fits the bill in terms of what you are looking for in an attorney. For example, if you want to be able to pick up the phone and ask the attorney a question, will you be able to? Will you be dealing directly with her or with an assistant? You may want to ask about her experience, or whatever else would factor into your decision.
No harm in looking into it if you feel torn. Maybe you'll decide you want to stay with your original choice, but you won't be wondering if you should have looked into the less expensive one!
If you LOVE the one you are using for $1500 and it's going to stress you out more to start interviewing other attorneys, then just stick with your first choice. I wouldn't make myself crazy for $550, but that's just me.
Remember you have to do what's best for you throughout the process, and then be confident in the decisions you make!
