just a vent -being stalked by realtors thanks to going to open houses

It's kind of annoying & I know it's their job- we've only just started seeing what's out there right now so I've been browsing online, going to a couple of open houses here & there & even though when they make you sign in, we were told that we would not be contacted unless we wanted to, they are contacting us.

Re: just a vent -being stalked by realtors thanks to going to open houses

Most realtors usually aren't that great at follow up -- myself excluded, of course! Chat Icon -- so most will call you or email you once or twice and then they won't bother anymore. But real estate agents are largely responsible for generating their own business. And many agents host open houses (for listings that may not even be theirs) with the hopes of getting new buyer customers to work with.

One thing you may want to do is create a specific email account just for your house hunt. This is what dh and I did when we were house hunting (in my pre-real estate days). We set up a hotmail account solely to be used for our house hunt and related communications. That way, we could give out legit contact info and review communications from real estate agents when we wanted to (some were actually useful!), but our regular emails weren't clogged up by realtor communications. I would try that, and then only give out your email (and let them know that's your preferred mode of communication).

To address the current situation, just nicely request that you be taken off their contact list -- let them know you do not want further communications from them.

But even if you are just casually looking, it may benefit you to meet with a realtor or two and see if they are a good fit for you. Maybe you liked on of the ones you met already?

I am always happy to do a buyer's consultation with any potential buyer who is at any stage of the process. I go over all of the steps, and what the buyer should do to prepare. And I listed to the buyer's real estate wants/needs/goals. Everyone I meet with says they find it very informative and helpful. And then when they want to see a house, they don't need to wait for open houses... I can set up a private showing for them and do all of the coordination. I never push -it's up to the buyer to decide how often we look at houses, if at all. But you may just want to consider going that route.

Feel free to contact me if I can help you with your search! If not, good luck - and try the "dedicated email address" suggestion. It will make your life easier, trust me!
