Warn your realtors when you have open houses

We currently have our mom's house on the market. There have been a number of open houses in which the realtor and prospective buyers come in through the garage and leave the door from the den to the garage open.

Bad move. Why? Because when a realtor leaves a door open, it is enough time for a cat to crawl in and get stuck there with no way out. Then it dies in the basement only for your sister and brother to find it as they are about to hire a NEW realtor.

YEAH that REALLY happened. I can thank G-d I wasn't there.

Word to the wise.

OMG Leslie...that is awful.

first, the poor cat DIES..of what..starvation?? thirst? ugh, how terrible.

and then, the SMELL that a dead cat in a house could muster.

Chat Icon for your siblings.

if there is a "bill" to rid the house of the odor, your EX realtor can take care of that!

Re: Warn your realtors when you have open houses

It was apparently rather gross. The cat died on a runner that was behind the bar we had. The cat AND the runner were both tossed and my sister went to get a new piece of carpet. When she got back, the house still stunk from the stench. When we were growing up, we always were VERY mindful of keeping the den door closed so that stuff didn't happen. Though that was not the reason we fired the realtor.

Oh I failed to mention a mouse stuck in a trap who suffered a similar fate. Needless to say we posthumously named the duo "Tom and Jerry."Chat Icon

Re: Warn your realtors when you have open houses

From what my brother said, it had a collar so it did belong to someone at one time. The cat had been going in and out of the house for a while. We thought we had gotten rid of it but it made its way back in. Very sad.
