Stress Choosing A Name
Does anyone else find that picking a name is stressful? I feel very overwhelmed when I think about it. DH and I don't agree on similar names and we are always changing our minds. I have my own personal list and I have about 8 first name choices and 2 middle name choices. Nothing feels right, nothing feels like "the name". DH gets all upset when we discuss names too. Argh!

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
I can relate! It's very hard for us to choose a name. I didn't choose with dd until I was on the OR table. I like a name for a few days and than I find problems with it. Dh and I don't agree on anything either. So yes it's stressful!

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
I hear you, we have our boy name picked out but we have NO clue for a girl... we decided we would stress over it once we find out what the gender is at our 20 week sono... if its a girl then we have a lot of thinking to do!

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
This time we have both our boy and girl names picked out and we both agree and feel strongly about the names.
But last pregnancy --- it was more of a rough list. We had made up a list of what DH liked and what I liked for both a girl and a boy and the decision wasn't really made until the baby was born. The doctor made the announcement "It's a GIRL!" and I said right there lets name her Emily Elizabeth and DH aggreed.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
yesss we are having trouble and we had trouble with our ds too. When my son was born he didn't have a name until the end of the day and my hubby decided and I was too loopy and I was like ok ~ but I love my son's name and he is a Jr.
We will see what happens with this lo ~ she might be nameless for a few hours after she comes into this world.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
DH and I don't really like any names enough to name our child. It's definitely very stressful and frustrating.
Plus, we want to come up with 3 - 5 names for the baby and name him/her once we see his/her face in person. We want to make sure the name "fits".

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
Don't stress! My LO didn't have a name for two days! We had a short list of the names we liked, but I wanted to meet her first and see what felt right. I wanted to make sure she looked like the name I picked. Have a short list, and when your LO gets here, and you hold him/her, you will know :)

I'm 34 weeks and the same thing! We have a name, but it doesn't feel 100% yet.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
None of my kids were named until they were about a day old in the hospital. It wasn't easy. And for my 3rd, we knew the gender since my 12 week testing, and we still couldn't agree on something before he was born.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
My DH and I had such a hard time choosing names. We each had a list--each list had some of the same names but they were ranked differently.
We did a March Madness Bracket last year to narrow down the names to the top two.
We picked our DD's name in the recovery room after she was born. I thought all along we were going with a specific name (even though I liked the other name a little better) and we ended up going with the other name.
It went down like this:
Nurse in recovery: Does this little girl have a name? Me (in a medicated stupor from c/s): I don't know, DH does she have a name? DH: Yes, Taylor Me: Really? Taylor? (that was the name I wanted all along) DH: Yup, Taylor Me to the Nurse: OK then! Her name is Taylor
All along DH liked that name better but led me to believe he liked the other one on the list...sneaky little devil that he is!

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
its very stressful, so I left it up to dh and I chose veto power.
I love the name dh chose for ds..
he also last fall now chose a girls name(while I wasn't pregnant)..... if it ends up being a boy he'll probably be picking the name too.
When I pick names, I don't care so much for them a week or month later.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
I have a list and anytime there is a name we like I put it on the list. I hope to drop off a few before LO comes and then when we get to meet her then pick her name from the list.

Re: Stress Choosing A Name
We had such a difficult time choosing names the first time. We didn't know what we were having and had such different tastes in names. Finally, when I was on bedrest at 36 weeks pregnant, DH brought home a baby name book. We each went through it and made a list of names we liked. After going through each other's list, we ended up with 4 boy names and 3 girl names. We ranked them, but didn't decide on a name until after DS was born. We ended up choosing the name we had ranked 2nd on our list.
This time, I know we're using an "A" name after my grandfather who passed away a few days after I got my BFP. I have only found 2 or 3 boy names I like starting with an "A," but I think we'll be able to agree on a first name. I'm already stressing out about a middle name. Right now, I can't find anything I love. DH and I haven't really discussed names, but I know we at least both like 1 "A" name for each sex. I guess we'll see if we actually pick those names.
