How long does it take to get COs from the town taken care of?
We are buying a house in Merrick. The house is fine but the house the sellers are purchasing has problems with the CO's. We are supposed to close on or around Feb. 28th. I know we have that month grace period. Now I'm getting nervous that we won't get things taken care of in time. How long do these things take? TIA

It depends. How long ago did they file?

Yeah, it does depend --
Are they using an expeditor?
What are the items that they don't have COs for... are they outdoor things like a deck or a pool or a shed, or major indoor renovations (an extension/addition)?
Did they have open permits that just need to be closed out? Or were there no permits obtained at all?
Do they need to obtain a variance for anything?
I would have your agent check in with their agent to see where they are in the process...

Unfortunately I don't know any details. All I heard was that it was pending, and that was a week and a half ago. I'm so frustrated with this whole thing. We put in our offer back in October. There was another offer on the table, that was higher, but the sellers said they took our offer bc we could move quickly!!!! This is not quick at all!!!! I'll probably call my attorney back this Friday and try to get more details. I know she'll let me know as soon as she hears though.

Sounds like us . . . we were supposed to close on/around 12/31 and we still are waiting for the COs to pass. Oh, because they were rejected the first time. That was fun. And the zoning board only meets once a month. MAYBE we'll get in front of the March board. SO frustrating.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. We were originally supposed to close Feb 1st. We signed the contract for that but the owners didn't. We found out that they could no longer meet that obligation so they changed it to Feb. 31st. I know this can go to March 31st, but I certainly hope not! DH, my 19 month old DS and I have been living with my parents for well over a year now. I am slowly loosing all brain cells.
