basement ?
so we are oin the process of finishing our basement. we did a separate room for storage where the boiler etc are and then left it open otherwise. dh insisted we do a small kitchenette and a half bathroom with a shower and pedestal and toilet. so now on one side of the staircase coming down we have an area we are going to use for a playroom for ds and the other side is going to be used for couch, tv, etc where the kitchen is. in the playroom area, we had to use it for an office too because we are converting our main floor office into a playroom. so i figured ill just use downstaiurs for the desk and file cabinets and then put some toys also for ds when he is down there... so my question is, i dont want to see th e desk and file cabinets becaus ei want to decorate as a playroom so should i buy a room divider and close it in? anyone have any opinions?

Re: basement ?
I don't think you have to "divide the room". I did so much shopping for containers and storage to make our office child friendly without letting kids take over. For us it is all about clever storage that looks fashionable.
I bought really pretty locked filing cabinets from the container store that matched with the room decor in all white (there are other colors available) Even though it is an office my dc do come into there so I have toys around in concealed containers (container store, west elm, pottery barn, ikea). It is possible to make a room look like a family room or office but also serve as a playroom if you incorporate clever storage ideas that don't look babyish. Also cleanup is a cinch. Good Luck!
