Upgrading to a monorail hotel in Disney

We're staying at PO- French Quarter in March. From reading some recent threads I'm now a little nervous about having 3 kids (4 1/2, 3 and 9 months at the time) and using the buses.

Is it worth it to change my reservation to a monorail hotel? Are there any discounts given if you already have a reservation and just want to upgrade?

I'm not looking to spend another $1500 just to upgrade though (that would put my total cost for 5 nights close to $5000)

There's no discount to upgrade, but often the %off savings is higher at a Deluxe resort.

Disney runs promotions for Spring stays. You can get 30-40% sometimes on specials.

There is not upgrade per se.

There are sometimes upgrade discounts but ONLY if for example the mod or value you asking about are sold out. So I wouldn't count on that - you can call and ask - worse case they say no. Better bet would be to check the current discount - which is % of room rate. The discount is not necessarily higher for the deluxes - but it does change depending on the hotel - disney has this right on their website. I think the specials are running where you can book up to Feb 28th and run until June - so you are probably within that time frame. The only thing is if you are going during a high time and you are - then the view you want (lower category at higher resort) might be sold out. You have nothing to lose to call and just have them price it for you.

Her dates aren't part of the Spring Room Offer

you are right I was thinking that it started mid March - but that deal ended back in January.

She has nothing to lose to call and see what they would offer for her to upgrade - since she is going at a very busy time she could look and pick a sold out category - that is when they offer upsales. Worst case is she gets nowhere.

Do you have a discount now? I have heard that they will sometimes honor the discount on upgrades - you might have to try calling a few times to get someone who wil do it.

Rent a car if you are concerned about the busses. I would not shell out the money to be on the monorail.

the busses are a pain - not going to lie - but i wouldn't upgrade and spend an additional 1500 for 5 nights - thats an additional 300 a night! no way!

i would rent a car and have your own transportation

I just take the buses, but I have some extra cash in case I'm extra tired and want to take a taxi, especially home from a resort dinner. It's not expensive and I have it when I need it

The buses are a lot easier than the subway, LIRR and MTA! I know they get a bad reputation but I've never found them to be an awful experience and don't think I'd spend all that money just to be on the monorail.

The buses can be great, and at least once or twice a trip, they'll be horrible. I always say "pack your patience" and you'll be fine!

That having been said, we're taking our first monorail trip this year and I am soooo excited just to experience it!

I would do it if you can afford it for sure. Much better experience IMO than using the bus system (esp add in having strollers).

Re: Upgrading to a monorail hotel in Disney

We had a monorail resort with DS and a stroller That was just great and convenient! No need to fold/unfold stroller each time you go on the bus and no wait in lines for the buses. Every time you want to go back to your hotel, you will need to wait for a bus. Some lines can be very long.

So if I was not on a monorail hotel, I would want a rental car for convenience.
