Have you check the Disney All Stars and Pop Century resorts - they are the least expensive on property.
There's a whole slew of other chains right there...
Radisson Orlando Resort
Lake Buena Vista Resort Village and Spa
Courtyard Lake Buena Vista - Marriott Village
Hilton, located in the WALT DISNEY WORLD (r) Resort
Doubletree Guest Suites - Walt Disney World Resort

Grosvenor. In Disney but great prices and great hotel. He can get the jitney and it is a few minute walk from Downtown Disney.
Good when you are nice and liquored up

The Wyndham Resort Hotel. I stayed there with DH the day we got engaged. Wonderful grounds, good service and just all around nice.

We've stayed twice at Hotel Royal Plaza and loved it. We booked it through mousesaver.com and got a great price.
It's not a Disney hotel but on the Disney property.
