If you want to stay at Disney in a suite, I recommend using DVC-Rental. You can rent at a vacation club property. I would stay somewhere near the monorail line. My favorites are Bay Lake Towers and Boardwalk Chat Icon

Is that like a time share type thing?

Can you rent for just a few days? or is it weekly?

Disney just opened a new family suites value resort. It's called Art of Animation. That's where we are going to book. Great prices.

You pay for points depending on the amount of days you want to stay, the size of the suite, the time of year and the place. He has the points charts on his site. Totally flexible Chat Icon

Re: disney, places to stay

How do those dvc rentals work? How much is a point?

I see Boardwalk is 76 points for a week in September. What's the total $ for the week? It's unclear though the agreement seem to state $12/pt which comes out to $912 a week?

Is that right?

When is your trip? How many in your party? What's your budget? What do you look for in accommodations?

Yes, that's for a standard view studio during adventure season. If you priced it through the disney site for the same room, it would be around 3 times as much.

What is this website? And what other reliable sites do you use beside dvc-rental.com? :)

Just a warning about renting points. There are several sites that offer this (I think the recommend some on mousesavers.com).

Renting points isn't for everyone. You will definitely save some good money but there are chances that you take with it.

You rent from the DVC member - which means you have a personal contract with that person. I'm sure it doesn't happen often but you do take a chance something could happen. I.e. you pay the member and THEY make the reservation for you, they control your reservation the whole time. There are threads over on disboards every so often which something going wrong. I'm sure it rarely happens but it IS a consideration. Basically you have a private contract and they make the reservations. I believe in almost all cases you cannot cancel (this is because the member would lose the points). You should make sure you have very good trip insurance in case you have to cancel or something goes wrong. Additionally, if something does go wrong the person you rented from is supposed to make alternative arrangements - but not sure how easy that is once you get down there and find out for example that you don't have a room.

The pluses is that you can get VERY good deals and can pay considerably less for a villa than you would if you basically did it directly through disney. The rooms aren't cheap but if you want a villa it is a means to get one at a very good rate.

You should ask for references if you go that route though. If you think you want to go this route - I would try to rent from someone you know - thereby canceling out the "stranger" factor and then you are booking with someone you know and hopefully trust vs a complete stranger that you put your trust in. It isn't a good option for someone who likes to have everything go smoothly because if it doesn't then...

Honestly, as an Owner, I have to agree with this. I am not someone who would feel comfortable renting points from someone else. Your contract for the points is with the individual owner, NOT Disney. If something goes wrong, you have no recourse. The DVC owner controls your reservation. By that I mean, you cannot add Magical Express, a dining plan, etc., without having the owner handle it for you. I am a bit of a control freak so that would never work for me. Also, if they fall behind in either their dues or DVC loan payment, any reservations are cancelled.

There are risks for the DVC owner too (but I won't go into that).

Unless it's someone you know, I wouldn't rent points, but that's just me.
