Converting from Oil to Gas
DH and I are on the house hunt and it seems like SOO many houses have oil instead of gas heat. Anyone have an idea of how much it would be to convert to Gas?

Re: Converting from Oil to Gas
You have to know if there are gas lines in the area
We are house hunting too
I just emailed LIPA and told them I was house hunting and gave them the addresses of houses and asked if their were gas lines close enough for conversion.
THey answered me back very quickly
Some areas have no gas lines around so they cant be converted

Re: Converting from Oil to Gas
It really depends on the house, we have to line the chimneys, and the burner we would need to heat our house would all in all cost us approx $5,000. get a few quotes...

Re: Converting from Oil to Gas
I was speaking with a friend about this earlier in the week and from what she said, when she looked into the cost of converting, she was told it may not be worth it bc even though the actual oil is more expensive, it uses less than the gas heating does. and the cost to convert can get expensive so in the end she is keeping oil

I think we paid about $4500 in our old house. We used Burner King.

Re: Converting from Oil to Gas
You have to make sure there is gas lines in the area. There is hardly anyone with gas around where I live. We called when we moved in to see if we could convert and they told us we had to get three or four neighbors to convert as well or they wouldn't put the gas lines in. Too much work since I didn't even know my neighbors at the time.
