getting off bcp
when you ladies stopped taking bcp, did you use protection for a month or two so that your body regulated or did you just get right to it?? I am hearing conflicting things and am just curious what you ladies did. Right now, DH and i planned on just seeing what happens...no bcp but also no ovulation prediction kits, temping etc. we were going to give it 4-6 months and then really start "trying" by tracking my ovulation etc. right now we currently every night or every other night so we wouldnt expect to change that regardless

Re: getting off bcp
the opinion def varies from doctor to doctor. i wanted to give my body time to regulate my cycle and my gyn said to just go for it because the egg is very active in the first 3 months after stopping bcp

Re: getting off bcp
According to my doctor the only reason to wait is if YOU want to wait to see what your cycle is like. There will be no harm to the baby or you if you get pregnant immediately after stopping. The chemicals leave you body very quickly (hence why you can get pregnant by missing 2 pills). Also, they say you are most fertile right after stopping BCP. Personally, I did not want to wait... and honestly my cycles are still strange 5 months later so there would have been no point and I am glad I just went with it

Re: getting off bcp
We thought we would go off bcp and just see what happens, but then after the 1st month we realized just how badly we wanted a baby and started charting and using OPK. When I told my doctor we were going to start TTC he said there was no reason to wait. Good luck!

Re: getting off bcp
I got off bc last month and we got right to it!
Although, now I have what I think is a luteal phase defect from the bc pills which is fixable but will prevent me from being able to get pregnant until it goes away. I also have pcos, so I doubt I'll get pregnant w/o meds.
But if you have no known problems, it is fine to start trying right away. That's what my dr told me Good luck!

Re: getting off bcp
We're doing the same as you! I went off BCP in September. We didn't use any other protection but i didn't get pregnant September or October; November is my 3rd month off the pill; and i just started keeping better track of my cycles and knowing when i ovulated we only BD twice during my "o" window in November so were not really going crazy trying to get pregnant (yet).
We knew we wanted to get pregnant within the next 6 months; so if it doesn't happen on it's own by then; then i'll try using OPK's

Re: getting off bcp
I have been off of bcp since mid-September, and for the rest of that month and October, DH pulled out. Last month, I was expecting my period on a Sunday, and didn't get it until that Friday, so I actually took a couple of pregnancy tests (negative)....Because of that, I can understand the importance of taking a few months off so that you are able to understand your body. This month, we're TTC, but I know that my period can come much later than the 28th day, so I won't go crazy about testing this time.
