Who else is with me? I TRY! I really do! I just feel like I can't keep up! Prior to being pregnant I could seriously go the entire day and not drink a thing until I got to dinner. I'd even eat my whole dinner and not drink something until after I finished eating. Now, I'm no where near that and I make a conscious effort to drink water, water with lemon, caffeine free drinks, juice, etc throughout the day but I feel like every day I fall short of the 64 oz standard. I go to my OB tonight for a check up and I'm so scared he's going to be able to tell somehow! Chat Icon

I have never made it to 64oz. I do reach at least 32oz per day which compared to what I drank before is amazing. (I also dont count other liquids besides water so combined maybe I do drink 64oz).

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

In the very beginning I drank a TON of water, I was just so thirsty all the time. Then the MS kicked in and I wanted nothing to do with water. Now that the MS is gone I'm slowly adding more water but it's hard to get back in the habit. I drink a lot of liquids but not as much water as I should. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon This is my daily struggle! Even though I know that the days when I get plenty of water I feel amazing, compared to when I don't. I've been trying to do a little better each day.

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

yes, I've definitely been slacking. Pre pregnancy I would drink at least a gallon of water a day.

Now I get nauseous if I have too much liquid in my stomach Chat Icon Every time I walk by the water cooler I try to remember to take a drink...

I didn't know until recently that ANY liquids count towards your daily intake so count the juice, soda, ice tea, coffee!!!

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

I could have totally written your post myself! I do not drink nearly enough fluids at all. I am also a teacher, so if I drank as much fluid as I'm supposed to, I'd never get any teaching done! It's difficult for me to make that up before and after school. DH is really going to be on top of me about now that I'm pregnant though!

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

Me! I try too, but after a while all the liquids make me feel like crap! Also, I have a long commute to work, so it makes my drive HORRIBLE! I hate the feeling of having to pee while I am on the road..and I also hate stopping!

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

Im in your boat right with you. My ob told me I have to drink more because I am getting horrible Braxton Hicks. When I dont drink I find I get them a lot more. For me add on not eating enough as well. I use to be able to go the whole day and just eat dinner. Its hard for me to remind myself to eat. I dont get hungry and I am busy during the day. I'm trying though. Really I am.

Me....I'm so horrible.

When I do drink something- it's not usually water. I'm guilty of drinking too much caffeine free diet soda

Yes!! See.....

From babycenter....
Aim for eight 8-ounce glasses per day (64 fluid ounces) of fluid, plus one 8-ounce cup for each hour of light activity. Milk, juice, decaffeinated drinks, and caffeinated drinks all contain plenty of water and "count" toward your fluid intake.

Keep in mind that juice and sweetened drinks also provide a lot of extra calories, so don't rely on them too much.

It's best to limit caffeine, too – including caffeinated teas and colas – to 200 mg (about one 12-ounce cup) per day. More than that raises the risk of miscarriage, according to a 2008 study.

(It's a myth that caffeinated drinks dehydrate you. Yes, caffeine makes you pee more. But the amount of fluid you actually lose because of this diuretic effect is so small that it's insignificant.)

Don't hesitate to drink water and other fluids because you're afraid of retaining water, either. Oddly enough, the more fluids you drink during pregnancy, the less your body retains. So if your feet and ankles are swollen, drinking more water actually helps.

Water carries nutrients through your blood to your baby, and drinking plenty of fluids helps prevent dehydration, too. This is especially important in the last trimester, when dehydration can cause contractions that can trigger preterm labor.

Water also helps prevent some common pregnancy problems such as constipation, hemorrhoids, and bladder infections (drinking water helps dilute your urine, which reduces your risk of infection).

If you need to drink more fluids, you don't want extra calories, and you don't like the taste of water, try adding a wedge of lemon or lime to your water, or a little juice, for additional flavor. If you're not sure how much water you drink each day, fill a container with your target amount and try to finish it by the end of the day.

Re: Who else is guilty of not drinking enough water/fluids??

I'm trying really hard but having such a hard time. Even before I was PG i would hardly drink anything b/c my bladder is the size of a pea... 10 weeks ago I was admitted into the hospital for kidney stones and when i was discharged they said I should be drinking at least 2 quarts of water a day. I'm trying, but i spend most of my day in the bathroom.
