when you have to stop sleeping on your back
How does that work and by what week? What I am confused about is let's say you watch tv in bed before you sleep. Doesn't that count as dangerous then? And when u do sleep one one side only doesn't it hurt? Ty

Re: when you have to stop sleeping on your back
I was told to stop once it became uncomfortable. My doctor told me that the weight of the uterus isn't THAT heavy, only in heavy people who are PG. I stopped around 22 weeks. I actually tried to stop around 16 weeks, when they suggest you stop, but I kept waking up on my back! And you can always lay on your "back" while propped up at a 30 degree or so angle. Although, at the end the only angle that's comfortable is more like 60 degrees. You can also sleep on either side, left or right. Left is "preferred" because the blood flows a little better, but right is completely fine too! I was actually breech and was told to lay on the right due to the position of DS - they hoped it would allow him to rotate into the right position in my sleep. He didn't.

Re: when you have to stop sleeping on your back
You don't have to stop and really you can't control how you sleep anyway. It drives me nuts that some drs still say this. Sleep however YOU feel comfortable, you won't hurt the baby sleeping on your back, belly whatever. If you like your back, sleep that way until it's uncomfortable, at some point it will be I promise

there was a distinct moment where it became difficult and I had a problem breathing. That was when I stopped.

Re: when you have to stop sleeping on your back
You should really try to stop by the 2nd trimester, when your uterus becomes heavy enough to restrict blood flow, which can be harmful to both you and baby. But this is definitely something you should talk to.your doctor about, because you will get a wide variety of answers on here and only your doctor knows what is best and healthiest for YOU and YOUR baby.

Same for me. I think it was around 20 weeks with twins. Not sure if its different with a singleton pregnancy.
I did sometimes lie on my back for short periods of time, but would alternate sides when one got uncomfortable.
Your body will let you know when its time.

Re: when you have to stop sleeping on your back
I've noticed recently that I am having a hard time breathing when I am laying on my back. So no I try to stay on my side. . . I mostly try to lay on my left, since my acupuncturist told me that your liver is on the right. But however I am comfortable, that's how I try to sleep.

Re: when you have to stop sleeping on your back
not sure exactly when it happened but your body will let you know - it will be hard to breathe. i sleep on my left or right side, or on my back propped up at a significant angle (think 75 pillows)
