Ikea furniture?
anyone purchase furniture from IKEA? I saw a table online i liked-it has what i want; color; size and of course price. We don't use our table daily/monthly hardly ever so it won't get used to the ground. Just if we wanted to have people over so i really don't want to spend $1K for a table to just sit in our dining room. But i found one a liked at IKEA for $300.

Re: Ikea furniture?
I think it really depends on what the piece is. Some people are very against Ikea. Personally, I have an Ikea DR table for 4.5 years with no problems. My table is the Bjursta table which was around $350 at the time.
Can you post the table you like?

Re: Ikea furniture?
DH and I have purhcased one of those free standing tall wall closet units in our old apartment which was awesome and looked great! Now we just have a coffee table from there and it holds up really well. If you like it I say go for it.

Love Ikea. Assembly can be a biotch, but they are strong pieces. Our bed and DS's dresser is from there. We are looking into couches now b/c I want slipcovers, not a microfiber fan, and will need to be able to easily clean them.

Re: Ikea furniture?
like PP said, it depends on the piece. I'd make the trip out to the store and see how the piece feels, especially with a dining table.
My husband and I are very tall and we find the tables to be on the small side. But we have a few Ikea dressers and nightstands and have no problem with them. Go for pieces made with as much real wood as possible. HTH

same here on the tables & our height. we had an ikea dining table for well over 5 years. still going strong, but we had to replace it for a taller table. ikea's dining table are [i think] a bit over 29" tall.
most of the pieces i have, have lasted well over 5 years so far.

Re: Ikea furniture?
I agree with everyone else that ikea quality completely depends upon the actual item. There are some things from ikea that rival more expensive stores and then there are other things where you get what you pay for.
I have a pair of book cases with doors from ikea and they are still working strong over 6 years later.

Re: Ikea furniture?
Hit or miss- and the real wood stuff tends to do better than the MDF, in my experience. We have two tall bookshelves and a tv stand and both pieces have held up very well- they are both made of pine.

Re: Ikea furniture?
our kitchen table and chairs are from ikea. granted, we don't sit at the table every night but they are holding up well. We've had them for about 7 years I think.

Re: Ikea furniture?
Thanks everyone!! I plan on driving out to the hicksville store this weekend and seeing the tables in person. I will make sure to note how comfortable the height of it is when we sit down. And find out if its real wood.
They don't package price their chairs right? I.e set price of $600 if you buy 6 vs say $159for each?

Re: Ikea furniture?
I agree with the others - it totally depends on the piece! I have found that the solid wood pieces hold up well though. The MDF/particleboard stuff... not so much, but it fits the bill sometimes.

We have this same table. It does not seat 14 people. If you have really narrow chairs you can fit 10 people. Otherwise 8 people comfortably with both leaves in. If you put two people at each end of the table you could squeeze an additional 2 people for a total 12 max.

It's actually a different one that's in their catalog-i can't see it online. It's $399 and says seats 10-14. It has the dimensions L94 1/2 X 114 1/8 X 133 7/8. Not sure why i can't find this on the website. Maybe they don't carry it anymore? Although it's in the 2012 catalog??
I can't seem to figure out a way to post the picture from the catalog.

Re: Ikea furniture?
i have that table & there are pics in my house progress album....i remember when we saw it in the store there were several sizes...my table is set up with one leaf in and it fits 6 large chairs, you'll see them in the pics...but if i had smaller chairs i bet i could squeeze 3 on each side and fit 8 with one leaf in...when we have to seat 7 i throw a folding chair on one side to fit 3 across and it's fine....with both leaves in i've sat 11 and that's with 6 large chairs and 5 smaller folding chairs...if the table you are looking at is the next size up from mine you can def fit 10-14....i do think the larger table is also wider - that is the one thing i didn't take into account when buying my table, i wish it were a little wider so there was more room for food since i don't have a buffet table...other than that i love it....it does collect a lot of dust, especially being dark....we only use it for company and i throw a pad and tablecloth on to protect it....i know once the baby comes it will probably get "distressed" and like you i didn't want to spend a fortune, plus i'm not crazy about most of the big sets you see in the furniture stores....HTH

THANKS! Gorgeous pictures!!! I was looking at the next size up. I love the chairs that you matched to it. I was also thinking about doing leather chairs!
