Re: Expereinced w/ Ikea Furniture?

My husband did basically all that (and a few other things) over the course of 2 days I believe. It just takes a while, but it's not horrible. It also helps if you have someone to help you with the bed since it's easier to have someone hold a piece as you screw it together.

I put this IKEA dresser together for my DD's nursery -took my friend and I about 2 hours. It's a lot easier when there is someone to help you. Good luck!

Re: Expereinced w/ Ikea Furniture?

Thanks so much! I LOVE the dresser! There is loads of storage space. I didnt find it difficult to put together - just a bit tedious. We also have the Hemnes 3 drawer dresser in white in a spare room - that took my husband maybe 1.5 hours to put together.

GREAT price and good quality.

Re: Expereinced w/ Ikea Furniture?

I am going to get that piece and the tall dresser with an iron bed. -

Our house needs so much work and for now we're in one of the downstairs bedrooms until we dormer/refinidh upstairs, so I didn't want to spend the $$$$$ on the Ethan Allen furniture I am in love w/ b/c who knows what I'm going to want when I finally move the bedroom upstairs - y'know?? But in the transition period, I need SOMETHING !!!

it's not hard at all. I put a dresser together by myself, and I'm not very handy.

That dresser above is the first piece of IKEA furniture DH ever put together. It took him 2 hours and he swore he'd never do that again. Chat Icon

It's about 3 years later and I'm disappointed with the quality. The bottom two drawers keep breaking and the seams are coming apart. We use it every day and it cannot hold the weight of clothes a regular sturdy dresser could. That said, I think it's a fine dresser for a guest room or nursery.

I bought several pieces when I single. I did it all by myself. It's easy to do.

Oh believe me, I'm not spending $279 on a dresser and expecting it to last 10 years !! - But right now I need SOMETHING b/c DH and I are living out of the laundry baskets and I can not stand it - so, during this transitional period, I'd much rather buy inexpensive and replace it in a few years when I'm ready for the good quality furniture -

Most Ikea stuff is really easy to put together, we have the Hemnes stuff too (wardrobe, bedside tables, tall boy dresser) and my husband did it in a few hours. We bought HUGE PAX wardrobes for our bedroom and we paid someone to put those together, they were too big for us.

The thing with Ikea stuff, it is what it is. You are getting what you have paid for, its mid range, and its mid range in quality. Don't expect more. It does stand the test of time better if its put together well, I will say that.

One tip I read is to coat all screws used with clear nail polish before screwing in to strengthen the bonds-I've never done it but it makes sense

Re: Expereinced w/ Ikea Furniture?

Do yourself a favor and read all the directions first, there have been a few times where we put the shelf on backwards or nailed something in wrong. The directions are not so explicit so just be aware of the front and back of the dresser.

I have the HUGE PAX wardrobe too. That I needed DH's help with.

I have so many pieces from Ikea that I can put them together in my sleep.

The instructions are perfect if you can look at a picture to understand directions and have attention to details (some pieces are meant to go in a particular way and it's not meant to be taken apart to be redone).

it puts together easy.

I'll warn you about the drawers, they are cheap plywood and bow out in less than a year. than the dresser/ drawers were useless.

I bought our first bedroom set there, it lasted about a year.

I've heard to reinforce the drawers with carpenters glue. Don't know if it works.

The bed stayed nice though!

Good luck!
