If you have regular cycles, do you still use OPKs?

I feel like I keep repeating myself but I keep thinking of more questions. My cycles are 27 days. I'm on my 3rd month now. Today is CD14. So, since you O 14 days before your period is it safe to assume that I'm ovulating on CD13 since my cycle is 27 days? Is it a waste for someone who has regular cycles to temp and use OPKs?

Don't assume to know when you O. I have a pretty straightforward cycle and I O at different times every cycles. Sometimes its earlier then day 14 and sometimes later. I think I've actually O'd once on day 14 and I think that was a fluke.

Well, you could Chat Icon every other day from the time your period ends till you get or don't get it again.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I remember the first time I ttc that's what my doc at the time told me. I ended up using an opk and got pregnant on the 2nd month.

Now my cycle is a total mess and I NEED opks. My period is about to end and I pray I get a smiley this month!!

Good luck!

I agree with the PP, dont assume you O 13-14 days before your next period even if your cycles are regular. My cycles were always reg. I had 26 day cycle and my O day varied from as early as CD9 to as late as CD17. I think OPKs are a great investment at least until you get familiar with when you normally O.

Yes don't assume!!!! You never know if you're going to o earlier/later for whatever reason in a particular cycle. I bd earlier than when I assumed I was going to o and I think that's exactly when I got preg.

You really can't definitely know when you O even if you have regular cycles. I'm pretty regular, and I've O'ed btw CD 13 and CD 17 in recent months.

If you are taking a laid back approach, you don't have to use OPKs. There are other signs, like CM and temping of course. If you want to focus your efforts though, I would use the OPKs.

The normal luteal phase (LP) - which is the number of days between O and when you get AF, is usually the same each month for each woman, give or take 1 day.

The normal LP range is 10-16 days. So it's ok to assume that if you have a 27 day cycle every month, that you are Oing some time between CD9 and CD17.

It can be less or more than the average 10-16 day LP, but that is considered a defect and isn't very common.

HTH!

ETA: I had regular cycles when TTC my DS and I used OPKs. I definitely think it helped me to conceive him Chat Icon

Oh wow, okay I won't assume then lol. If I'm not pg this time, I'll definitely invest in an OPK. Thanks! Chat Icon

agreed, don't assume. I O'd about 3 days later then I thought. So if I went off what I 'thought' I wouldn't have gotten my BFP.

I did not use OPK however if I didn't get my BFP when I did I was planning on starting!
