Ugh.

Was planning on throwing some decals on the wall in the nursery and calling it a day. MIL steps up and says have it painted, I'll pay for it. Awesome great fabulous.

Tell her the colors we chose. Bright vibrant red on one wall, monarch gold on the rest. Light blue on the ceiling. Still going to do a tree decal. Maybe, eventually, clouds on the ceilng. The room is only 9x9.

She calls us to say that she talked to some people. The colors are too vibrant and the baby will never sleep. The baby will be bouncing off the walls. We need to choose some pastels and to really rethink our decision. Then proceeds to tell me that I've never seen a nursery in those colors. Yes I have. No you haven't. Ok, then.

It took all of my being to not say a word, just agree to talk to 'people' and decide.

Thoughts, opinions? Are we insane with the colors?

I would say you spoke to other people and they agreed with your idea. I'll vouch!

I really do like that color scheme though, not just saying it.

Our walls are a bright orange...so I am the wrong one to ask MIL's offer is nice, just wish it wasn't tied to having to do things her way

TJ's room is painted Cleveland Browns orange. Yes, Glidden actually makes a paint that is the official color of the Cleveland Browns. It's radioactive.

It does not make him bounce off the walls. We also have blackout shades in the room (I highly recommend!!!). You cannot see the color at night or when the shades are closed.

Seriously? Eff that... do what you want. DH and I are very vibrant color people, and I think it sounds fantastic. Tell her that most kids toys are bright colored and is that a problem too?

Well if you believe that color effects mood (color therapy) then she does have a point. I believe orange is supposed to invigorate, blue is supposed to calm and red is supposed to stimulate and evoke strong emotion. I think your MIL needs to calm down, it's your decision. I will say that my sister and I spent years in a room with red walls and we did fight a lot

I always never gave colors a second thought at all and would think it's ridiculous.....until......

I had my bedroom painted BM Million Dollar Red.

it was this color for like 3 weeks and then I had it repainted a light blue.

Lovely color, but I found it to be anxiety-producing and I could never relax. Had trouble sleeping. Then again, I am a bit anxious always, anyway.

However, if it's just 1 wall, it may not give off that vibe, so who knows?

I think everyone is different. But do as you see best and see how it goes. You can always change it if you had too!

I do agree that colors can help set a tone in a room (i.e. calming, warm, cool, vibrant) - however its not going to make one bit of difference to your LO sleeping or not! Babies actually like bright colors right?
I don't think you're nuts, i think the colors you chose are fine.
I've had a dark burgundy color in my bedroom, and it was incredibly relaxing to me, same goes for my brown and blue combo in there now.

I would ask your MIL if her offer of paying for the painting was contingent upon her approval of the colors - make her come out and actually say it to you (which i'm sure she wouldn't). Then tell her that while you appreciate the offer, you are comfortable with your color choices and are going ahead with the colors you want. If she refuses to pay for it, then ask her if she really wants to be that petty over paint colors then she doesn't have to visit when its done!

It's your nursery. That's all there is to it. Tell her she can reserve the right to say "I told you so", but these are the colors you chose. I love the color scheme.

Tell her you spoke to your future pediatrician and he/she said it is fine and may even foster development in your LO. Tell her you are so happy you made the right choice!!

And if bright colors are bad I think Paige will be having nightmares about her Pepto colored room for the rest of her life

Oh please. I say just go with the decals and say thanks but no thanks. Decals -- you can take them down, rearrange, what have you, without having to repaint a room. Might be easier.
