We were told to call Nationwide and State Farm because they are both writing policies currently. My mortgage person didn't recommend Geico, as he had heard some less than wonderful stories, but I am going to give them a call anyway. I also called USAA because we have them for other things, but I need to talk to them again and make sure we are comparing all things equally.

I actually found our insurance broker on this site...www.MrRates.com...jason is great and 100% on top of his game...I would recommend him to anyone...we switched all of our insurance needs to him so he shoped all of them around and got us the best rates out there.

State Farm. They were the only company that would insure a home in LI (four years ago). I'm not sure if things are different now.

They offered the best overall coverage. State Farm was way more expensive and offered less. (ex: my Interboro policy has a 2% hurricane deductible. State Farm has a standard 5%). Interboro also covers 25% over the policy replacement cost, so my policy amount/premium can be lower with higher coverage.
I used a great agent who shopped it all out for me - even found me better options than my current car policies (I was bundled with Liberty Mutual for house & cars prior to our move, but they wouldn't write a homeowners policy at our new address)

allstate. Think I'm going to switch because it's getting to be too $$$. Been going up hundreds a year & I don't think that's typical.
