Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I had an amnio and I wouldn't say it hurt. I kept my eyes closed because I didn't want to see the needle. I felt alot of pressure in my belly. The amnio was over in less than 10 minutes. They go in and out.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
Not really...the doctor saw the scar from having my belly button pierced and said it would hurt less than that. It hurt way less - it was like a pinch.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I will give you an update in 2 weeks when I have my amnio.
My sister said the CVS was not bad while a co worker said the CVS was unfortable. I think it depends on the Dr doing it also.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
it really wasn't that bad the worst part is waiting for the results (it took 10 days) I did not do the NT scan because of my age and family history they said it would lessen my odds and just stress me out. Thank god everything came back ok. Good luck!

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
the only reason the CVS was uncomfortable for me was because I was holding a really full bladder.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I had the cvs done and it didn't hurt at all. The only annoying part is that you have to have a full bladder.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I didn't think the amnio was too comfortable - it is a needle going thru your belly, but it lasted a couple of minutes only. I was sore the rest of the day and night.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
The CVS was a little uncomfortable for me, because at the time I was pregnant with triplets and they had to go in multiple times, but it's definitely something I wouldn't do again. Waiting for the results was more painful. Good Luck!

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I had both. The amnio is really nothing.
The CVS was a bit more uncomfortable, but I use the dentist as a comparison - the dentist is much worse! The actual CVS was 78 slow counts (my amnio was a little longer b/c they wanted extra sample to do extra tests)
the results are priceless!

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
They want me to get one, but I said no because the I'm not taking a chance of having a miscarriage from it, makes me very nervous and to chance it and know baby was fine would kill me!!

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I had an amnio yesterday. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It hurt for a second when they put the needle in and it literally was maybe a minute altogether. I felt some cramping last night and I am a little stiff today but overall feel really good.
I have to say I was really on the fence about getting an amnio. I really struggled with having one done but my husband felt strongly about knowing. I had my NT scan that did not come back as good as we thought it would have and that really scared us. My AFP however came back completely normal- which was great but made me even more confused. Which one do you believe?
I go to a really great practice and absolutely love my doctor- trust him completely. This is the advice he gave to me: He said that he thinks my baby is completely healthy and I have nothing to worry about. However he is a strong believer that a woman needs to feel completely comfortable throughout her pregnancy and if there is going to be a question mark over my head and I am going to worry/stress about this then I should have the amnio.
He also went over the amnio with me which made me feel more comfortable with my decision. He said that back in the day they used to do the amnio without doing the sono so they literally were sticking a needle in you not knowing where the baby is. Now they do an extensive sono before they do the amnio and while they are doing they amnio. THey know where the baby is the whole time. Plus my doctor said he NEVER would do the amnio if the baby is in a bad spot.
The truth of the matter is your baby is more then likely very healthy. But you have to do what makes you feel most comfortable. If its going to stress you out without knowing the whole pregnancy then do it- its not bad at all. If you are okay without knowing then skip it.

Re: ladies that had amnio/CVS
I had a CVS. Did it hurt? I'm not going to lie. It wasn't pleasant. It hurt a bit but HONESTLY it only lasted about 30 seconds. When I think about it, labor is going to be a million times worse. I was more of an uncomfortable feeling than paon though. After, I was a bit crampy but that went away within an hour. I suggest it if you want to know early on how everything is going in there.

ITA! I had mine done at my high risk OB (I had the CVS with him and he wanted to do the amnio). They delayed it a week and a half, since it wasn't the right timing. But both sonos before were at least 30 minutes.

Honestly I was super nervous but now that its over I am glad I did it and got it over with. It hurts when they put the needle in but after that its okay and its sooooo quick. The cramping is practically gone now and I am just relaxing today. From what I understand amnio's are completley safe now that they do it with the sonos. And plus you get to see the baby again!!! If you have any other question feel free to FM me. Good luck and I am sure you will get really good news from it!!!
