Re: Price of your house
I dont like to be directly asked. I never directly answer b/c family would NEVER understand the cost of LI real estate. I am not interested in having a discussion about how "insane" I am. . That being said, I assume anyone and everyone looks it up on the internet and I prefer it that way.

Re: Price of your house
I have no problem telling people what we paid. It is all public knowledge anyway, so if someone wants to know they will find out.

Re: Price of your house
I think if it comes in conversation and you want to share what you paid, that's great.
However, when I literally first met my neighbor, she asked me how much I bought my house for. This was probably because she was trying to sell hers but it came across as very rude. Needless to say, I was very happy when finally moved.

Re: Price of your house
We are looking now and my parents know the range we're looking in but I don't feel comfortable telling too many others. I know we have some family and friends who would think we are "rich" because of it. It will eventually be public knowledge but for now I don't need to feel the jealousy

I'm very open about the price of my house, and my finances in general.

Re: Price of your house
I would never ask someone what they paid for their house b/c if I was curious I would just look it up I am an open book while house hunting and tell everyone the price range we are looking in. I see no problems with telling the price of my eventual home either - I mean, they can just look it up very easily so what difference does it make?

I don't mind telling, especially if someone is in the market. I know the information would have helped me when I was looking.
Same here.

Re: Price of your house
If it's in a conversation about house prices, no problem!
If it's out of the blue, I think it's awkward. I would never ask someone. I think it is like asking someone's salary.
When I was house hunting, a coworker turned around point blank and asked me what price houses we were looking at, I felt uncomfortable but trapped and told her. I think she was just being nosey and trying to figure out how much $$ we made.

Re: Price of your house
I wouldn't ask someone, however if someone asked me I wouldn't really mind (depending upon who it is of course). It's just as easy to look it up online anyway. The same mine and DH's salaries- public knowledge (he's a sanitation worker; I'm a teacher). Basically if anyone wants they can hop on the web and find out about all our finances

I think it's weird to ask someone, but if I got asked that question, I would tell them. You can also easily find out online. . Same here! Just go to Zillows and find out yourself. We have friends that we later found out lied about the price of their home when we looked online...

Re: Price of your house
It is public record. They can find out. But the sale price of my house on the net is WRONG.

Re: Price of your house
I feel it would be rude if someone asked me - let them look it up themselves if they really want to know. I would never ask someone else.

Re: Price of your house
I don't really care if someone asks me. I've been asked and I've told.
I'm not sure if I've point blank asked others...?
