Under the new carpet we found 4 layers of vinyl tile.
We had this too! poor DH had to pull it up to reveal the hard wood flooring!

In the attic :
A huge (working) tv antenna, with the cord running thru the linen closet.
Ancient venetian blinds for every window, including the picture windows.
Monogrammed shower doors.
This stuff was shoved thru a 3x3 opening in the ceiling. I had a hard time pulling the stuff DOWN once the pull down stairs were installed.

We live in a co-op and whenever we use our Wii I can get on the internet. Cablevision was upgrading our wires a couple of months ago and said we had an 8 way splitter for service between us and our neighbors.
Yea that'll do the trick.

In one of the kitchen cabinets, there was a pacifier inside of a baby food jar. Their daughter is 13 yrs old.
Marbles...everywhere...in every room under the radiators. WTH?
The AC (wall unit) in the dining room was old. Fine, we thought we could get another couple of years out of it. Nope...apparantly they never used a filter with it, and when we opened it to check it out before using, it was covered in mold...like, caked on...gross! It went right to the curb.
I'm sure there's tons more!

We bought our house from an older lady going into assisted living so she left US A LOT!!!!!! She was apparantly loved tennis bc I've never seen this many tennis balls in my life! A peanut gumball machine, and a bunch of really random old lady things

Oh we have a fireplace also there is this pit that you sweep th ashes into that goes down a chute somewhere near the oil burner and there was like 50 yrs worth of ashes old cigarette butts and cigarette packs

Our house had been vacant for a couple of months. I went over a couple of days after we bought it with my husband, and we saw a pair of red sexy panties laying in the middle of our basement I was totally freaked out, thinking that people were breaking in and having a good time, so I called the cops. When he came, he asked me three times, are you sure they aren't yours Umm, yes, totally sure!!! Still have NO idea where they came from, but it was there laundry room down there, and there was work being done upstairs, so maybe it fell from the ceiling of something

i got a good one:
the basement was the teenage son's bedroom for a while. there were drop ceiling tiles that we decided to replace since they were all yellow and crumbling.
when we replaced the ceiling tiles we found the following items stashed up there:
1. a used condom
2. a box of scalloped potatoes (***?)
3. millions of sunflower seed shells
4. several folded up discarded cardboard bud light 18 pk containers
5. a roach (of the smoking kind, not the bug)
We knew the previous owners moved a few blocks away and we really wanted to wrap all that stuff up in a box and leave it on their doorstep with a note 'oh, you forgot all this..'

The day we moved in, an hour later the power went out. it was that huge northeast blackout in August 2003. At least it wasn't just our house haha Of course that was the first of many W TH moments here.

The load Of crapp that was left for us up in the attic! Like old bathroom shower curtains and stuff. Did they really think I wanted to use that? Oh and not to mention seeing thet there is no wall up between me and my neighbors attic (condo living) so I could see all the junk she stores up there!

Not my house (my parents) but we found a used condom in a tree in the backyard. The best is that it was discovered during one of our first bbq parties of the summer and many family members were there.

Oh the best has to be the pair of panties I found under the stove when moving it out to be replaced! Granted our laundry is in the same vicinity so I can see how it could happen but gross. And our seller was a gay man who used our place as his love shack. So maybe he also cross dressed or the panties have been there for a really long time!!! LOL

-A FAMILY of squirrels living in the eaves and space between the 1st floor ceiling and 2nd floor floors - no kidding - the exterminator got 6 of them!!
-Not 1, but 2 bird's nests. 1 for each of the bathroom vents on the 1st and 2nd floor

All of the light switches were installed upside down - so if you flipped them down it turned the light on, flipped them up and the lights went off.
WTFluck?!?!?!!?
It was an easy fix, but still, how that even happened in the first place is beyond me.
I have to admit though we never corrected DS room and his is still that way, LOL!!!!!

What was missed by engineer
A basement that floods, leaks all over the house, some kind of dampness problem that no one can figure out, a toilet pipe that leaked (mold too)
I guess you can say we missed all of this too!

We are had few , some good , some bad.
Good- In the garage full of furniture that we thought was junk (we made them give us a $600 dumpster credit at closing) there were actually some really nice things (beautiful inlay dinning set complete with table pads, and a whole Ethan allen living room table/bookshelf set, ceder chest). What we didnt keep for ourselves we sold at a yard sale and made an additional $600.
Bad-After living in the house for a few weeks the plumbing (which had not been used on a regular basis in 16 years because no one lived in the house for that amount of time) pretty much gave up and when I did wash poop would come up into the bathroom tub on the other side of the house . Thank goodness for good friend plumbers or else  .

Our sellers left us all kinds of cr@p, but they kind of had to pack on the run. The wife went into labor at our closing 
The most random thing left behind was a picture of Barbara Streisand, tacked to a garage wall.

us too! she told us she painted over wall paper in the living room, but when we tried to peel it we saw like 3 layers of wall paper! we ended up sheetrocking over it too.
Same here. In one of the bedrooms, it looked like they tried to take the wallpaper off, but missed large spots... and then shrugged and painted anyway.

We had W T H moments frequently when renovating our house, so I can't just choose 1!
HOWEVER, my brother found a WOODEN dildo in his attic... must have been very very old. How this person did not get splinters is beyond me...
