Is this a good quote for Cabinets

I just went to consumers (with a 2 year old) and received a quote for 35 feet of cabinets for $10,000. They are from Ultracraft, shaker with eggshell finish, and all wood (one of their specials).

I love them but do not want to spend that kind of money. I know HD has frameless cabinets but they are a lot on money and are not wood (need to upgrade). I would like plywood because of the moisture in our house.

Does anyone have any ideas how to lessen the price (besides not going to the ceiling)? I cannot go to a lot of places because of my son and have until the first week of Sept to have my cabinets.

Includes everything. Frameless cabinets are more money than framed ones.

Re: Is this a good quote for Cabinets

I would take the quote and go to HD and see if they can beat it.

Consumers left me cold if I'm being honest. I was all set to go with them - they designed my kitchen and it looked great.. and it was about 9K with the contractor discount. Then I took the quote to HD to see what they would show me.

I got better cabinets and more cabinets for less money. I also realized - after a quick redesign - that the kitchen that Consumers designed had a number of flaws - including the fact that they had my dishwasher butting up against the corner sink with no spacer.. this would mean that I couldn't stand at the sink and open the dishwasher. The biggest nail was that when I went BACK to Consumers I was unable to work with anyone excpet the girl who'd give the original quote because she was getting commission. I had to work my schedule around hers.

I guess that's a long way of saying it pays to shop around. Even if you wind up with Consumers in the end.. it's still good to see what others have.

BTW - I don't know how many feet of cabinets we ordered - but I can tell you that I got about 15 new cabinets -all plywood construction with maple doors, premium finish, 5 point mitered raised panel fronts, full overlay, soft close, roll outs, super susan corners and spice cabinet for less than 10K. These are 36" with all mouldings, kick plates, skins and decorative arch.

Honestly, no.

I know my dad's shop (which is a vendor on here- Dynamic Kitchens) is running a special right now with all wood (maple with 3/4" maple/plywood core boxes- frameless)- including tax (capital improvement) and installation (which I doubt HD would throw in).. would bring you just about 10k and comes with all the upgrades, extended uppers, crown, etc...

Not sure if you are interested in custom, but I can tell you the cabinet quality would be leaps and bounds beyond what you could get at HD or Consumers and would be completely made to your kitchen- no fillers, wasted space, etc.

TOTALLY go for custom if you can afford them! Sassy is 100% right.. the quotes at HD and Consumers do not include installation so if you need that it's possible that custom may wind up being less money and less of a hassle in the long run.

You've got your quote from Consumers - not go to Lowe's, HD, Dynamic and whomever else. Get your prices all together (I used an excel spreadsheet for comparison) and figure out who will give you the best quality for the best price and decide who you personally gel with best - and then make your decision.

Good luck!!Chat Icon
