Please explain ovulation for me (I know, I should know this)
You would think I would know the answer to this question but..
Please explain ovulation for me. Like, lets say I know I ovulated today does that mean the egg is gone or that it will live for another 12-24hours? Or does ovulation mean that it is too late for fertilization? I know that if you have sex more than a day after O you will most likely not get pregnant but what about within 24 hours of ovulation?

From what I understand ovulation takes up to 24 hours to finish and you can get pregnant the day after O but it's not as likely as before O. But what do I know I still haven't gotten a BFP!

Well, Ovulation is the egg's trip down the tube(s) to the uterus. I believe OPKs predict when the egg will be present for fertilization.
Sperm can live in the body for at least 24 hours, so that is why it also helps to BD before as well.
I will say this month, the day I got , we missed BD (we both passed out on the couch!), but we BD the day after , the day after that and then the day before I got , and I got a BFP this cycle.
Bottom line is, we all should have paid more attn in health class!
