cervix, not doing well
Well I have been having my cervix watched for 8 or 9 weeks now. Its been steady at 2.9cm, they were comfortable with that. I went in last night and its 2.5cm . They dont seem concerned, I am nervous. They did not restrict any of my activities, they did a internal to check the cervix and said it was closed and tight. I have to go back in two weeks for another sono, internal and swab to check to make sure I wont go into labor within the 2 weeks fromt eh swab. Has anyone else had this, were you restricted at all? Its too late for a cerclage. I feel like there is always something. any advice would help, thanks

Re: cervix, not doing well
Are you seeing a regular OB or a high risk doctor? My OB measured my cervix last week at 3.15 and was concerned it was getting too close to short. He told me to take it very easy. My high risk doctor measured me yesterday four times and said the shortest they got was 3.6 and there was no need to be concerned. They said they usually get concerned at 2.5, but even that is debatable and it's really 1.5 where they need to worry. I don't care for that particular doctor though and think 2.5 is where some sort of action needs to take place.
Try to lie down as much as possible. You need to take the weight of the baby off your cervix. And see how it measures next time. If you're not seeing a high risk doctor, now might be the time to. Good luck!!

It depends on how far along you are. I had my cerclage placed at 19 weeks. I know my peri has done cerclages on women who were 25/26 weeks.
Definitely take it easy, try to lie down as much as possible.

I am 25 weeks now, my dr said its too late for cerclage, he actually does not seem to concerned. He does do high risk pg as well as regular. I am going to take it easy regardless of what he said just because I feel like I should. thanks

Re: cervix, not doing well
I was put on bedrest for a short cervix at 31w. I was told that 3cm is the norm at that stage. I was .5! Then I went up to 1.3, then I went back down to "too small to measure."
It seems like you're close enough to the "norm" that they aren't too concerned, but they'll likely keep checking you as they have been. If your FFN (swab) results come back negative it is a VERY good thing. They will check that every two weeks likely.
Hang in there! Take it easy - I would try to be off your feet as much as possible while still going about your daily routine.

I just heard this on NPR, apparenly a new study indicates progesterone may help with shortening cervixes. You might bring it up with your doctor.
Progesterone study
Good luck!

Actually it was brought up when I measured 2.9 if I needed treatment, but they wanted to wait it out.It was stable for 9 weeks and now its shortening. At this point he is not going to do anything and wait to see how it is in 2 weeks. thanks for sharing
