Christenings
I'm not very religious and pretty clueless. We are bringing our baby up Catholic and I believe in the sacrament of baptism. Does everyone do a "formal" Christening with a party? and when are they usually done? (How many months after birth?)
My baby is due late November so I'm thinking the Christening would be right after Christmas and I don't think I want to do a big party. Maybe just close family (mom, MIL, brother and couple of close friends.)
Is there anything wrong with doing that?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I did a small party after her christening with just family. Gianna was christening when she was 7 weeks old.

We were holding out to do a big party but the money just never came along. We waited so long --- she was 9 months last weekend when we did it -- so we ended up just having a small bbq in my FIL's backyard with just immediate family.

Thanks I feel better. I just know I live too far and esp with the winter weather a big party won't work for me.

We are having a baby dedication and having a luncheon afterwards with family and close friends. It will be about 40-45 people.

We had Roman's Baptism followed by lunch at a restuarant with only immediate family. Roman was three months old.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Jack was born in October and we had his Baptism in January with immediate family and then eveyrone came back to our house for food that I catered myself. 
Also, I didn't do favors...just not my thing for a baptism.

We did the same. Although our immediate family was 21 people.

I am having my DS Christening this Sunday--he will 4 months old. We are doing a late lunch at a restaurant with just our immediate family.

Andrew will be christened at 5 months old and we are having a fairly large gathering. We both come from large extended families and it would be to hard to cut the list. Trust me I would love to have something small so we could save the money

Christenings I am due Late August and I have to tell you go small .
For my first son Joseph I went all out and there was about 65 people there and it was a fortune. And it was Crazy and I didnt even enjoy my sons Christening.
Now with my second child coming I alreadly discussed with my husband that I am having only the family and a few close friends attending.
I am due August I am going to try to have it in Late September if not early October
Enjoy the moment the time goes by so quickly

i had big christenings for my other kids so with spencer i felt i needed one too. it's alot of work we did it at our house and i catered it and it RAINED!!! so many kids in the house!! i was out of my mind!!

That is what I initially wanted to do.. have something small, but now this has turned into a HUGE fiasco with sooo many people coming.
Ryan will be just about 6 months for his on 7/23.

Our baby was born on June 4th and the christening will be on October 8th. We are doing a small intimate party at a restaurant.
Nothing is wrong with what you are doing.
