Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
I have had a crazy few days, I had to get steroid injections for my back. I had a gyno check up last thursday and talked to her about conceiving.
She said the temping craze causes stress and makes things difficult and you become obsessed.
(I don't get that impression from any of you ladies here, I was just kinda taken back when she said this to me, but anyway....)
I had a sono taken on my ovaries and there was no cyst activity, which is awesome.
But for those of you temping, do you really feel your obsessed and crazed? I planned to just temp to see what it does, I don't believe I'd get into a "craze".
She told me to use an OPK pack, which I did and got my smiley on friday night, and she literally said, sex every other day usually does the trick.

it seems strange that she would say not to temp even though it is more accurate than opks.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
This was my first month temping and I like it. I don't think it's making me crazed or anything, I like that I can confirm I ovulated.
I guess everyone is different. Try what you think is best for you.

She said the temping craze causes stress and makes things difficult and you become obsessed.
i think the whole ttc process can make anyone obsessed and crazed it's all in how you learn to deal with it
I would interpret her words to mean that if you're temping every day.. you start to feel like you are actually doing something and 'in control' of what your body is going through. While it is obviously helpful to temp and know exactly when you're O'ing.. it still doesn't give you any more control over actual conception than anything else does. So i think that it can lead to a false sense of control/security in the ttc journey, that in reality we don't really have. Which can in turn drive you nuts!!

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
I temped for 2 months, and stopped b/c yes I did find it too stressful. DH also hated it and asked me to stop b/c he thought I was too stressed. We can't keep every other day schedule the whole month, but I do think it is best, b/c OPKs can read a surge, but you don't O. Or at least every other day day 9-20.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
Last cycle was my first time temping and I'm so sorry I didn't start it earlier in my TTC journey.
I'm not crazed or obsessed at all. If anything, it's had the opposite effect. Having a better understanding of how my body works and seeing a clear thermal shift confirming ovulation has been so empowering and reassuring.
I'd actually say I'm more relaxed because of temping.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
I think she meant not to do it in the beginning. Thats what my Dr told me. If you are healthy and have no other issues then just and have fun with it. If in a few months it hasnt happened then temp and use OPKs.
The whole process can make you crazy.....and beleive me we are all crazy here....we all test like mad and analyze every symptom.....but if you can not do that for a few months I say do it and enjoy yourselves.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
I could not agree more with this statement!!! Temping definitely gave me a sense of control and insight into my body BUT it actually has made things more stressful because it doesn't change the fact that I have no control over conpception. And it makes me even more frustrated.
I also have to agree with your Dr. I've actually heard a few girls on here reference their doctors words saying.. temping causes to much stress and can impact your ablity to conceive. Though I dont know how tru that is.. I do know that when I wasnt trying, I was pg within 2 cycles. Now it has been consuming the majority of my thoughts and it's been 7 months. It could be a coincidence... I started temping a few months ago and found I had a short LP.. So it is helpful... I started taking B6 to extend my LP and will be temping for one more month to be sure it is still longer than 10 days... and then Im tossing the thermometer. I know I O on day 18... and have for the past few years... 2-3 times a week is going to be enough... or it's not meant to happen.
Wow.. that was a load off... HAH! Sorry.. it's actually been a thought on my mind recently to give up temping...
For some girls it works... for me, it means that I have to start EVERY single day thinking about TTC. ITs exhausting...

This was me, I was not sleeping, worrying about forgetting to temp. I was waking up DH with the damn beep of the thermometer. Plus for me, once I get a smiley or peak, there is nothing more I can do. Since I'm not temping, I don't have anything to track during the 2WW, and less to fret about.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
My dr. also said something very similar, even in regard to opk's.
For me personally, I found that temping (i did for about 4 months), using FF, and OPK's stressed me out. I was so consumed with TTC and it was a lot for me. I had a whole series of testing done, so I know i ovualte and eveyrthing is working with me.
So i decided to stop it all. Then the month I had my chemical I got pg. doing none of the above. We went away for the weekend, going out to dinner, drinking and dancing. I specifically remember enjoying myself and the was great!! This is our method now...start BD around CD7 until CD16 every other day, occassionally consecutive days.
However, EVERY person is different. What works and is comfortable for one is not the same for another. Sometimes it takes a bit to find what works for you, mentally and physically.

Re: Gyno told me not to temp, and other things
I became obsessed. I didn't temp, but I became obsessed with using the OPKs. The month that I didn't use the tests, we just bd'd every other day for 2 weeks and that was the month we got our +. I am doing the same thing this month, fingers crossed.
