yes I would eat it- and if I were a guest, I would at LEAST try it- IMO to not do so is rude

added to say- I think the whole "bambi" thing is sort of ridiculous.. but I also eat rabbit and lamb...

As a host, it is your responsiblility to make your guests feel comfortable. You should have gave them a heads up that you were serving a non traditional meat. If I was in that situation, I would not have tried it.

Nope - wouldn't eat it but I wouldn't comment in front of others - just kept my opinions to myself...maybe said it is something I can't get myself to eat and apologize and leave it there. As a person who loves to cook - I wouldn't have made something that out of the norm without backup options for as a host you want to appeal to the masses and that isn't quite the right dish for the masses. I see you mentioned you are all into trying new things but it doesn't appear that was the case. For me, I try most foods and eat many things but venison is not on my list to even try. I just can't get over certain things with certain foods and deer and rabbit are two big ones for me. Plus isn't venison usually served on the rarer side or am I just thinking elk (which I was served once and wouldn't eat - it was really raw)? I can't eat anything that isn't cooked medium well at minimum but that is just me - too much red/blood makes me sick to look at it on my plate.

No, but I don't eat any red meat anyway. DH would have tried it though bc he will try anything.

Personally I wouldn't eat it but I am not always adventurous with my food choices. Since you explained that you all aim to try new things I definitely do not see anything wrong with you serving it and I feel she was rude regardless!

i totally would! i was recently looking at Rein's menu online (garden city hotel) and they have a venison dish. If we had gone there, I probably would have ordered it!

I do think its an odd choice for a dinner party. For a group, I won't even make fish or beef--usually just a pasta or chicken b/c they're the most group friendly.

Your guest was rude to be so vocal. I probably would have tried it, and if I didn't like it, just concentrated on the side dishes.

Probably not. It's just not something I want to eat and I think it's an odd choice for a dinner party especially if you didn't ask the guests if they liked venison prior to the party.

I would definitely try it, but I am an adventerous eater. If I did not want it, I would simply not eat it and would not make a fuss over it. However, whenever we have guests over to dinner I always take their tastes into consideration. If I did not know for certain that would enjoy trying something unusual, I would play it safe and make something else instead.

NOPE! My DH is a hunter and he and my girls will eat it. I openly admit I have major food issues. I do not eat steak, fish, anything on a bone. Basically chicken, Turkey, Pork(boneless) and pasta.
I would never cook something like that for guests unless I asked them first.

I'm a vegetarian, so no. It sounds like the lady was kind or rude about it though.

How many of these dinners have you had already? You would think with the discussion of food allergies and she considers herself a "foodie", that she would've mentioned a venison issue.

I personally have had it a few times and I'm not a fan.

We've been doing it for two years. We meet for dinner 4x/year. Every couple gets a turn. My wife thinks there is something else behind the behavior. Who knows. I assumed (bad, I know) that since buffalo burgers were ok, venison would be fine.

I don't think it's bad that you assumed, honestly. I think after buffalo she might have mentioned it.

I agree with your wife.

me too. given what you described, she acted like an ***.

I would have no problem, I would eat it. But then again, I would eat anything that is not a reptile Chat Icon Chat Icon or an animal part that I can easily distinguish. Chat Icon

I must point out.. IMO most of the people that claim to be true foodies have a limited palate.. you can serve up chicken, pork, beef in any which way and they'll eat it and have no issues.. but something out of their basic food group, they will not eat it. And I have noticed this among my friends as well.. so I usually and make it a point to ask on different occassions if I have the time.
