questions for those that had an HSG

I have an HSG scheduled on Tuesday morning and was planning to go to work afterwards. Is this okay or should I be taking the day off?

I heard that I may have some AF-like cramping, but after reading some things on here I feel like it was more painful.

what did you ladies do...stay home or go to work?

Re: questions for those that had an HSG

My appointment was later in the day so I went home afterwards. I could have gone back to work, because my cramps were like mild AF cramps. I am sure if you take an Aleve or something afterwards it should help. Good luck!

I had two and they were both first thing in the AM and I went to work after both.
I took a Tylenol before and really only had some mild cramping.
Be sure to wear a pad after, because some of the dye can leak out.
Good luck!!

Re: questions for those that had an HSG

Mine was fine...I believe it was done in the later afternoon so I went home but I felt fine.

My friend on the other hand was in a lot of pain after...she had a blockage.

Re: questions for those that had an HSG

I had ZERO pain during and after. I did not have any blockages so that is why. I heard if you hae blockages its like AF cramps...so it depends on the person

I went to work after. Mine was in the morning. I had no blockages but I did have some cramping after. They told me to take 2 Tylenol about an hour before and that helped. Hope it goes well for you!

I had a blockage and had AF-like cramping for about 20 seconds. I dont remember any cramping afterwards after I left. Bring own pad. They will give you a gigundo one. I also had very very minimal bleeding afterwards.

Stay home! Or at least take the day off so you can if you need to. Chat Icon

For most people its not a painful thing ... but I wasn't one of those lucky ones.

I had an absolutely terrible experience with my HSG due to a blockage. They were able to clear the blockage by the end of the test, but it was PAINFUL! I took 2 tylenol about an hour before and another 2 tylenol about 30 minutes before.

I could not have driven myself home, I could barely move afterwards.

Mine was 12/30, which I planned so I'd have the long weekend afterwards to recover if needed. We stayed in on NYE because of it. I probably didn't really feel "better" until at least a week later, though the cramping was minor after about 2 days.

Not meaning to scare you at all ... so, I should add a disclaimer that I have a terrible tolerance for pain and it takes my body a long time to recover. For comparison, after the last internal sono & pap I had, I was crampy for like 3 full days afterwards Chat Icon
