Is abstinence a good thing/bad thing

Just curious if anyone had any info on whether abstaining before O helps/hurts.
I know if there is a male fertility issue, that someotimes it's recommended but could it actually hurt anything if there is no known male fertility issues?
On another TTC message board I use, someone mentioned something about "stale" sperm affecting your chances of conception. Anyone have any info on that?
We don't purposely abstain.. but our schedules are so hectic that sometimes we def go 1 week or more before O without
Should I be worried, or more frequently throughout the month?

I have read sperm should be released every cple days. Not sure exactly how often but I don't think it is good for them to be in there too long...

Check out Deannas plan (you can google it) that is a pretty good plan to follow for TTC from what I have learned here
