So if you are 18 weeks are you in
your 5th month? Looking at my ticker it seems that way.

Re: So if you are 18 weeks are you in
I would call you 4 1/2 months. Your 5th month starts at 20weeks.

Re: So if you are 18 weeks are you in
I think that according to What to Expect, your 5th month begins at 19 weeks. I think I remember that. This is why I always go by weeks, not months

Re: So if you are 18 weeks are you in
If week 19-22 are the fifth month then:
Charly- I think that since we just turned 18 weeks on Tuesday we are "within" our 19th week- therefore, I think we just started the 5th month this week- do you think that is right?

According to this website, the 5th month is weeks 19 through 23. So yes, you started your 5th month. I guess you can say you are 4 months and 1 week.
Hope this linky helps .

Re: So if you are 18 weeks are you in
I have the what to expect book in fornt of me it say week 18-21 is 5th month...But then I get confused bc thats one way of looking at it but also 20 weeks seems logically 5 months.

I think one of the problems is that we are getting 5th month (meaning 4 months and some weeks) confused with being 5 months pregnant -- they're not the same thing. So when you are 4 months, you are starting your 5th month of pregnancy -- but you are not 5 months pregnant until you finish your 5th month. Kind of like when you are 1 year old you are in your 2nd year of being alive -- but not 2 years old!
ETA: For example, tomorrow I will be 21 weeks pregnant, beginning my 22nd week of pregnancy.

right. But also, every month is not 4 weeks, according to the pregnancy books and sites. So, I am 20 weeks...people would think I am 5 full months, going into my 6th month. Really, I am still in my 5th month according to the pregnancy books.
Does that make sense?
ETS: this is why I go by weeks, LOL.

Yeah, I'm not counting myself as 5 months yet, either b/c I'm not going by the lunar months. I pretty much count by weeks also and let other people figure it out if they want to know how many months. What to Expect has the weeks broken down into 9 months, so I I usually refer to that if I want to see how many months I am.

Re: So if you are 18 weeks are you in
The best is when you give out the due date and the WHOLE logic doesnt make sense whatsoever. I am due DEC 1st I could be 5 months and 1 week according to what to expect, I could be 18 weeks (4 .5 months) or I could be 6 more months away when people begin counting with their fingers...its like huh???

I actually think it makes sense, it's just that people count differently. For you:
You're in your 5th month (making you 4 months pregnant, not 5 months) according to What to Expect.
You're 4.5 months if you're counting by lunar months (then pregnancy is 10 months, not 9).
You're more than 6 months away if you're counting by real months (because real months are longer than lunar months).
But since there are so many different ways to count it's easier to count by weeks. Just make a distinction between how many weeks you actually are (i.e., 18 weeks) and what week you're in (i.e. 19th week).
