can you force your body

to get AF and consequently O?

I am on CD 42. this has lasted since going off BCP in July. Last cycle was 50 days. I am not TTC yet, but if I do, its going to take forever!!! How can I force AF to come? You know, like they say spicy foods make the baby come?

Re: can you force your body

i dont think there is anything that can force ur AF to come regularly but some girls have talked about drinking red raspberry tea leaf to help regulate their cycle.

Re: can you force your body

Those cycles aren't that crazy, at least not to me. I never got my period the first time off BC and the doctor proscribed me provera at 89 days to force it. The next cycle was 85 days. After that, my cycle would flip flop between 59 and 34 days, but sometimes would be something else, over the next two years.

Even with that ridiculousness, we got PG after TTC for 3 cycles. I didn't temp or use OPKs or anything. We were going to wait 6 months to talk to a doctor about getting help if we didn't get PG on our own before that.

It's definitely not normal to have such long cycles, and the more I read on here, the more I wonder how often I did O. I would definitely speak to a doctor about your long cycles and see what they say. Over the two years after going off BC and starting to TTC, I would sometimes I have pain (usually during sex) and it turns out I did have cysts that grew and then would go away after my cycle came. They could've definitely been messing with things. Mine were small and usually went away within a few months, but it was worth monitoring.

I don't know any other ways to force your period other than medication. Keeping your stress level down is supposed to help, though. Wishing you the best! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: can you force your body

You can take provera to bring on AF. Like pp red raspberry leaf tea is also supposed to help regulate cycles.

ETA: Getting AF whether on your own or induced by provera does not mean that you will consequently O.

Re: can you force your body

Right after getting of BC my cycle was 39 - 45 days. It stunk! I counted 2 weeks backwards from around the next time AF was due and DH and I BD a lot that week. I wound up getting prego after 5 months of trying with the long cycle.
Now I am 28 - 30 since having DS
