Home From The Hospital
It was kind of a non-event. They didn't need to keep us for 2 days because one day was enough to show significant centrotemporal spiking in Robbie's brain waves. He's been diagnosed with BRE. I've refused medicine and the doctor is fine with that for the time being.
What it means is that he is very likely to have more seizures, but since the spiking only happened during sleep, they feel it they would likely be nocturnal episodes.
So we get a baby monitor and life goes on as normal - with some added visits to the Neurologist. If he has another major episode, we'll put medicine back on the table.. but I don't want to do that unless there is a better reason than "he will probably have another seizure at some point.. "

How scary, I really cannot imagine. It sounds like you are getting some answers though which is better than "we don't know why this is happening" What is BRE? Sorry if you mentioned and I missed it

You seriously forget what is important until you hear about things like this. I do anyway. Hope you are holding up.
It's not a 'bad' diagnosis. It's Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. It happens mostly in boys and it is usually gone by puberty. His activity is mostly at night so the likelihood is that if he has another major seizure it will be during sleep. So we wait and we watch and we thank God that his inteliigence doesn't seem to have been effected!

We have a little one in our family with epilepsy - I would hold off on the medication as long as possible, some of the side effects were rough and they tend to want to keep increasing the dosage if it's not working as well as it used to.
