How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

That is the question I have been tossing around in my mind lately. From what I gather, from here and other IF forums, a majority of women are successful on their first IVF attempt. I was not so lucky....and its making me think the worst. That I will have to endure many many cycles. And my dx, Unexplained Chat Icon Chat Icon only makes the frustration worse. I dont even know what is WRONG, how can i fix it. The only answer I can think of right now is, I will never stop trying, BUT I am scared $hitless. For the ladies who have had their first IVF fail, how do you keep up the positivity and strength to keep going?

Are there any ladies here who were NOT successful at IVF attempt 1 but did conceive on attempt 2 or 3, 4, 5 etc? I guess I just need some inspiration and hope

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

My 1st IVF cycle ended up being a chemical pregnancy and yielded pretty crummy embryos....My 2nd cycle which resulted in my DD we switched up the meds and we had great embryos and some to freeze ( which I am PG now with one of them Chat Icon ) Before my DS, I did multiple Clomid/IUI cycles before a successful IUI...Before I moved on to IVF I did 7 Clomid/IUI cycles that all failed....Try and try again...Thats what got me through...

Honestly, IVF like all the other IF treatments is science, so it takes some trial and error to see what works best for you as an individual...Which in turn can mean more than one cycle to find success....After all a couple without IF issues only has a 25% chance on any given cycle, so if you look at it that way, it puts on on the same playing field as all the other couples...

It sounds like you have a good attitude and that really does count for so much Chat Icon

I am vry sorry you are feeling down.
I was not successful on my first or second IVF cycle.
I had the ER portion of my thrid cycle but did not proceed with the ET due to poor lining.
To answer your question, I will do as many as it takes for me to have a precious little one.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

Altogether I had 3 fresh, 1 frozen and 1 canceled ivf cycle before I got my miracle BFP! Hardest thing I ever did but just hang in there and stay focused. Definitely not easy! I will do it all again if I have to when DH and I go for DC #2.

My husband asked me this and I said "when I have a baby in my arms"
He is in total agreement, but we know it may be a long road
Hopefully our bank account holds up...

My first IVF was a failed one. I too, am diagnosed as unexplained. I took the first failure hard but DH and the doctor both said we'd treat it as a trial and error. Didn't make me feel better at the time but we made a new plan, increased dosages since I didn't respond well the first time and I did great the 2nd time. I produced more and better quality and transferred two with 3 to freeze. My 2nd IVF was successful and I am not 10 1/2 weeks along. It was a long road but I am so glad my DH and dr pushed me to go forward and back to back so I never lost that momentum in a way. Chat Icon

My first IVF also failed. As of right now we do not have the money to try again.Chat Icon If I had unlimited funds I would try until it worked.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

I had a failed IVF cycle and my doctor (LIIVF) never gave me any answers to why I failed and why I was having this problem to begin with. I immediately sought a second opinion with Dr. Braverman and found three things (blood clotting, Natural Killer cells and most importantly a genetic problem in my husband). This gave me all the answers I needed and it changed the way I approached the second IVF (the one which got be pregnant). I took different meds, treated the underlying conditions, and put back more embryos. So I would recommend you go to another doctor that is able to give you ANSWERS to why it failed and why your infertile. Only then will you be able to make an informed decision regarding how many IVFs to do.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

I've done 6 IVFs and got PG 4 times, but unfortunately m/c all of them. (the last one was only 2 weeks ago)

Dh says "it will happen". right now, it's hard for me to believe, but I feel I have to keep going until the insurance coverage runs out my doctor says that it will never happen for me.

I don't think I can make that decision to stop, cause I'll always be wondering that the next cycle will be "the one".

I have MTHFR, elevated NK cells, HLA compatability w/DH,. I've done 3 intralipid infusions w/Dr. B, and thought that was the key to a successful PG, but I guess not. (I'm 41, so time is not on my side...)

1 incomplete and 2 failied IVF I think for me I am only going to try once more. And with that said I dont know if it should be with my own eggs or anothers. Its such a hard thing to think about putting a number on. For me at this point its what gets me to having a child faster. Everyones journey is different.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

I would like to say as many as I can until it happens, but really scared if the 1st one is a bust. I admire those women who try and try again and have gone through so much, and keep going. It is amazing to read about some of the strength on here.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

Until it works! My first IVF attempt failed, got PG on the second attempt, then miscarried at 10 weeks. Now we are starting again b/c we have 1 frozen embryo. If this doesn't work, we will start all over againa and to PGD.
Luckily, my insurance covers all of IVF. I know I am blessed as many women on here are not in that position.
I agree with the post that said, "until I have a baby (or two babies) in my arms."

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

As a teacher, I have very good insurance. I have 5 years, or 100K covered for IUI, IVF, Assisted hatching, embryo freezing, and all of my drugs, etc.
It doesn't cover PGD but I can't complain.

Re: How many IVFs are you willing to try.....

I had already done 1 IVF, 1 IVF converted into IUI and i"m currently on my 3rd medicated cycle and I'm hoping it'll be an IVF. I can't say how many is enough but I'm willing to try as many as we can financially support it. Our last option would be either egg donor or adoption but as of now, we're not marching down that path yet. I'm more relying on my biological clock. I currently just turned 29 so I really want to give my own eggs as many chances as I can possibly do. I would say for me, perhaps if in 3 years, we are still not successful, we're tune into adoption/egg donor option.
Whatever you decide to do, i wish you best of luck!
