TTC directly after stopping BCP?
Just wondering...I know most Dr.'s say to give your body 3mths or so to relate before TTC but would it really be a bad thing if a woman got pregnant shortly after stopping BCP? Is there a reason why Dr's want us to wait? Will there be a high chance of miscarriage if conceived directly after stopping BCP? Just curious...I know many woman who do get pregnant immediately after finishing BCP with no problems at all to the baby..but just wondering if there is a reason why we should wait

I think it is more to give your body time to adjust. I don't think it is bad to get pregnant when you come right off. I mean there are women who get pregnant while on the pill. I came off the pill in August and started to try right away. My doctor said it was fine.

It is my understanding the only real reasons for this are to help them date the pregnancy more accurately, and also to give your body more time to regulate. As far as the safety of conceiving, I am pretty sure it's perfectly safe.
Make sure you start taking prenatal vitamins a few months before going off the pill just so they are in your system.

I got pregnant with my son the very first month that I was off the pill and did not have any problems at all.

Thank you ladies. This makes absolute sense to me. Im going on 1mth of being off BCP and also 1mth of prenatals..Im just getting so anxious that I dont know if I can hold out until Dec. which makes 3mths of no pills for me  We will see..but thanks for the responses!

If you decide to not try for 3 months (I have a feeling you won't be waiting though  ) .. you should def start charting to get a better idea of your cycles and if/when you ovulate!

I agree I temped and charted for 3 months before we started in August, and tried OPKs 1 month before. This helped me understand that I usually O the day I get my so if I want to conceive we need to  before we get the , not just the day of and after.

It seems like you know me all to well!  Thanks for the advice tho. I have already starting charting my temps on Fertilityfriend.com..so we'll see what happens

That is exactly how I confirmed I was not ovulating. Of course I hope that you gain better information from it than I did and that you DO ovulate regularly (it's such a great way to learn about your body) - but in case there is a problem it could lead you to seeing an RE sooner than you would have (though again I will say I hope it does not come to that!!)

i know how you feel. i have 9 pills left  and then i am done! october we'll play it safe but after that i don't know how much longer i can hold out  i figure we'll be less and less careful and once december comes it's on

i know how you feel. i have 9 pills left and then i am done! october we'll play it safe but after that i don't know how much longer i can hold out i figure we'll be less and less careful and once december comes it's on

Tell me about it! At first I was like, "Oh 3mths, I can do that" Now, one month in and Im going insane I spoke with Dh last night and decided to move up the TTC game for Nov. He agreed

Yep every time, well only done it twice now, LOL, but according to Fertility friend, they give me my crosshairs the day I get my . I don't know it I have a short LH surge or what. I do it in the afternoon and Fertility Friend said I could get my rise the evening before or over the night.

My doctor told me 3 months to get my body back in order...but my sister-in-law got pregnant right away coming off birth control and my niece is 7yrs old in 2nd grade and she is fine...so I dont think it really matters.

I was on the pill for 15 yrs straight. We started TTC as soon as i came off it. Got pregnant the 2nd month trying. There is no harm in trying, but like the PP said, it's more to allow your body to regulate a bit. It's not like you are releasing 'bad' eggs coming off the pill or anything. good luck.

It's perfectly fine and safe to become pregnant right after coming off of BCP. Most doctors say wait a few months to give your body and chance to regulate.
I got pregnant 2 months after stopping BCP and everything is fine. I was also lucky in that my cycle became regular right away!
