very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
So I spent last night in the emergency room with what they thought would be kidney stones I had them about 8yrs ago. Well all test came back neg for stones but on the cat scan did show some free floating fluid in the pelvic something and she said that usually happens during your period or if you had a ruptured ovarian cyst. She is assuming ruptured cyst since I'm due to ovulate tomorrow. The pain was so incredible I was doubled over, and almost passed out the pain has almost 100% subsided but I still have discomfort in my pelvic area! I'm so upset that this is going to ruin my chances of getting pregnant this month I'm feeling well enough to still BD but don't even know if there's a chance. I really don't want to be out before I had a chance to even be in! So what I'm askng is does anyone have ovarian cysts that ruptured and what can be done? What will the dr tell me? This is my first cycle off bcp I wonder if that has something to do with it!

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
you should go to your ob/gyn asap and have an internal sono to determine if thats really the issue since it doesnt sound like the hospital was 100% certain. your doctor should also be able to tell you if its safe to TTC with it. however i believe cysts, esp. ruptures, could interfere with normal ovulation so for peace of mind you may want to have the sono just to make sure everything ovulatory-wise is going on schedule. i really think you should be checked out by your regular doctor!!
good luck!!

i wouldnt accept that. i would DEMAND that they fit you in since its an emergency and you were in the hospital. if they cant fit you in TODAY i would find a doctor that would.
obv thats just my opinion but this your health, so that should come before their scheduling.
good luck either way

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
I had a ruptured cyst last yr which landed me in the hospital also. I was in so much pain that i thought my appendix had burst! There is not much the Dr will do with a ruptured cyst, once it ruptured, thats it. Its ok if you go in on Friday BUT I would ask to speak to the Dr before Fri just to be sure. She will then do an internal and make sure all is ok. Cysts are very common in women and they usually go away on their own after we get our periods, some dont and they get so big that they burst.
I wouldnt worry too much about it, just make sure you speak to your Dr.
Good luck & HTH

I actually had a cyst rupture AND my appendix was on the verge of bursting right along with it!! I was in the hospital and needed surgery (for the appendix). I would def go to the ob even if it's friday. If you're feeling well now and don't have anymore pain, i would just wait. There's not all that much they can do at this point.
I also had a cyst while i was pregnant and had burst too! THAT was painful, i'm everything was fine

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
Meg, I had a 6cm cyst on my ovary that was found in december. They said birth control normally prevents cysts. Mine took up half my ovary so I had half my ovary removed. I have no ovulation issues now.

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
I have had ovarian cysts since I was 15 years old. I have had MANY emergency trips to the ER in extreme pain. Every time it was a burst cyst. They put me on BCP at 15 since this is really the only thing that helped with the pain & size of the cysts. I was on BCP until last year (27 years old). I came off BCP and immediately had one bad month of cyst pain - had to go to my Dr. they confirmed it was a cyst etc...the next month I was in no pain and the 3rd month I ended up getting pregnant. I am 26 weeks now and have had no cysts or pain at all (thank god!)
My mom had the same issues growing up and she had 3 very healthy kids, and actualyl said he cysts never came back after she had me (her first).
I know its scary, but don't let it get you down. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. My Dr. always told me I would have no issues getting pregnant and she was right
I hope you feel better too. I know how horrible it is

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
I also had issues with cysts as a teenager and early adult. The pain is excruciating, but a ruptured simple fluid filled cyst is really nothing to worry about. In 1999 my yearly exam revealed a rather large complex dermoid cyst that had to be removed surgically. I lost part of my left ovary.
It's actually pretty common for the body to produce cysts around the time of ovulation.
Is it possible that you had "painful ovulation"? The "technical" term is mittelschmerz. I've had mild pain due to O usually, but one time I had SERIOUS pain that I automatically thought I'd ruptured another cyst- it was so bad that I almost dropped my DD who I was nursing at the time. It turned out to be ovulation that was particularly painful.
BTW- even with the cysts and surgery, I've never had issues conceiving and recently had my third child.

Re: very upset and could use some advice from those who have had ovarian cysts
i just wanted to thank you all for responding!!!! im 100% today no pain no discomfort no nothig.. the ER doc seemed to think it was just a simple fluid filled cyst but couldnt be certain since it must have burst when i had all that pain almost 3 hours prior to the cat scan. Im due to ovulate either yesterday or today so she said it was perfect timing for a cyst and or like you just said painful ovulation.. this is my first month off BCP and she said its absolutely normal but to see OB GYN this week. i have an apt tomorrow with the nurse practicioner i will discuss it with her!! Thanks again to eeryone it really helped ease my crazy mind!
