garbage
so as we are fixing up and moving into our new house we have what it seems tons and tons of garbage... that doesnt seem to be getting picked up. anyone else's garbage guys take everything you put out? it seems like our garbage guys will only take so much. once we put 4 garbage bags out, they specifically only took one garbage bag. i complained to the sanitation dept and the supervisor came and took everything on his truck but this happened yet again  i'm about to call special pick up but my father insists the garbage guys are supposed to take whatever you put out (i mean provided its not construction materials).. so just wanted to see how the garbage guys are in your area.. thx!!

i know in queens you are limited to... i think... 6 pieces... all of which have to be under a specific weight (80lbs ??)

our town has a limit to what you can put out and certain things you have to call or take it to a facility...
ETA: If this is the case it might be worth it for you to rent a small dumpster from a private company if they aren't taking your stuff...

What are you throwing out? It really depends what it is because they can't take it. Maybe it should be going out with bulk? Call your sanitation department and tell them what you're tossing and when you can put it out or how you're supposed to.

they have different days that they take certain things. We've discovered that our town garbage pick up is kind of a PIA. This link might be helpful and there is a pdf you can download with the garbage pick up schedule

I agree this is probably what they're looking for--but 4 bags of garbage is not at all excessive. This is their job, and if they're not doing it properly I would call the town/village and report them.

If there is stuff in these bags that they aren't supposed to take then it's not their job to take it. There are certain pickups for different things. She never answered what was in these bags.

sorry yes it is regular garbage... i know for special items like construction they will not take so we haven't put that out. like for instance i had all the stuff i got from my bridal shower, opened everything so we had to shred lots of cardboard boxes to fit in bags, and other various packaging materials, paper towels from me cleaning the place up and down LOL.... its a lot but it seems like they will not take more than a few.. i will see what happens. I know some people tip their garbage men but i am not really around when they come around... oh well. thanks for the input ladies.. i will see what happens and then maybe ill have to call special pick up again.

Most towns have a limit on the amount of bags/pieces they pick up at a house. Although, you said they only took one bag,...so I do not know what is going on. It might be easier just to throw them some money so no matter what you put out, they take!

That all sounds like normal everyday trash. I'd think after a holiday weekend, a family of 5 could easily have 2-3 bags of garbage at the curb. Are these not picked up? Your best bet is to call the town and find out what the rules and regulations are, and if the garbage men don't follow them, then report them.
Maybe I'm weird, but I don't understand the logic of tossing money at people to do things that are probably their job????

Are they in pails or bags? What town/village are you in? Is it the ToH picking up your trash? I'm in ToH but our village picks up.
Since it's regular garbage they should take it. I know some towns have weight limits and such and if you have an oversized can they won't take it. (If you have an oversized can you can be fined!) If it's not heavy then they should be taking it.

we are allowed 6 items - under 50 lounds and under 39 gallon can.
on the second day we are allowed 4 extra items over 50 pounds.
if we are doing our own construction, you may put that out (a contractor may not). we put out all of our old kitchen cabinets and counter top and ceiling to floor bathroom tiles - no problem.
our GM usually take everything no matter what.
