Not trying to offend but I have this huge fear..

I really want a baby. It is all I think about and dream about. I love the way a baby smells, looks, etc. I love watching a baby learn to walk and do all that great stuff. Then kids hit this certain age where they annoy the c rap out of me. I can't explain it but they make me uncomfortable and irk my nerves. I have lots of baby siblings so I have spent a lot of time with kids. I am pretty comfy with them obviously but sometimes they do make me nuts for no reason. I am just really scared that this wont change much when I have children. I know I will love my children unconditionally but I would die for any of my siblings and they still make me insane sometimes so this is just a big concern of mine. I just wonder if maybe I don't like kids. Is it even possible to want a baby more than anything in this world yet not like children??? Does anyone have an issue of this sort at all?

Hmm, I'm the opposite I can't wait to have a child, but infants scare me. Don't worry when it is your own child, you won't have any of those concerns:)

This is me, to a T! Strange kids still irk me sometimes, for no reason, and I have NO idea why. My friend's kids don't bother me in the least, maybe because I've known them all since they were little? But I totally get what you mean. It's totally 1000% different when it's your own kid, I promise. DS is 22 months and I swear every little thing he does is the cutest thing ever to me - even though I know complete strangers would probably roll their eyes at him and get annoyed by some of his antics.

i feel sorta the same way. i really dislike strangers' children. i love my nieces and nephews, but i really can't stand most other children. and i think the 4-6 year old stage is going to drive me nuts, when they think they are smarter than you and are ridiculously stubborn. well, unless my kids aren't like that, but my nieces and nephews have all gone through this stage.

i totally get where you are coming from. i thought there was something wrong with me.... i like them until they are like 6 yo or older; then they annoy the crap out of me. and, for whatever reason, girls annoy me to no end.

BUT i know when it's my kid I will think it is my world, so i'm okay with nothing liking others' kids as long as i like mine.

I still joke around and say I "hate" kids. I have no patience for other people's kids.
Its different when its your own.

I could have written this post. I feel the same way about strangers' kids, and every now and then a friends' kid. But I am hoping all the PP's are right, that when it's your own, you wont feel this way!!

Kids annoy me too!

I think it's mostly other people's kids that are annoying when they aren't disciplined that I don't like. (like nosy or pushy kids lol, not like temper tantrums b/c all kids go through that no matter what)

I know if my kid were being nosy or pushy or annoying I would have to right to correct them (not saying they would always listen). The fact that I can't correct other's peoples bother's me. More so the fact that they don't correct their kids.

When it's YOUR child and you're watching them grow into these children, teens, and adults you will feel VERY differently. It's easy for someone else's kids to grate on you but when they are yours, trust me, you will love and appreciate every stage of their development.

I applaud you for being so honest about that feeling, and ITA and feel the same way about other people's kids at a certain age. They are annoying and they irk the cr@p outta me!! But something tells me that when they are our own annoying little children, it will be a very different story

ha i feel the same way- I dont really like other children if they are not closely related to me - I love my nephews but if its a stranger's kids I cant stand them!

I'm really glad you posted this. I feel the same way...I really like babies but kids & teenagers, not so much. Even my family members who are young kids really annoy me a lot. I am nervous too that I am not going to like my own kids.

But, I am hoping that because it will be my own child and it will be a gradual progression to when they are at that annoying stage that it will be ok.

i feel the same way sometimes. DH already has 2 boys (5 and 7) and i get like that with them sometimes and then i start wondering if should be TTC or not.
everyone says things are different when its your own so im gonna pray for that lol

I totally understand where you are coming from. my DD is only 17 months, but I will say it is 10000000% different when the baby is your own!! it's like you grow with them, so you totally adjust to new phases, things like that.

Before having a child I would always say that I was comfortable with a baby, but not with a toddler. As DD gets older I find the "next" stage daunting until we are in it and it is fine
