Can you get a smiley even if you don't hold your urine for 4 hours?
I am terrible at POAS.
Are they similar to pregnancy tests?
For my first pregnancy, every time I POAS I got a pregnant sign. I think I drank a gallon of water in a span of 2 hours and peed on a stick like 3x in a row.
If I'm close to my LH surge, will I get a smiley anytime I pee or does it make a real difference if you hold the pee for 4 hours?
Yesterday I got a O - no smiley.
This morning I got an error signal.
this whole peeing on a stick and waiting for a smiley is making the TTC process much more stressful!

Yes, your LH surge is different and doesn't last that long.
I was never able to hold my pee for 4 hours. You should be fine with a 2 hour hold.
The best time to test for your LH surge though is between 2pm-8pm, not with FMU.

if your using the digital/smiley OPKs then you can use FMU which should be fine

this is my first month on opks and i held it for 2 hours and got a smiley on the clearblue easy one

You should be fine as long as you hold for 2 hours. I wouldn't drink a ton of liquids during that time either. It might dilute your pee too much.
Also, I know they say with digitals you can use FMU but I never had luck that way. Would get a negative in the am and a positive later in the day. I never get a positive in the am, it's always in the afternoon.

i just started using the clearblue  ones and i couldn't hold it for 4 hrs. so I started using FMU and got a smiley on CD17.

I use the CBE digitals with FMU for the last 2 months and have gotten a both months.
