PSA RE: Zumba and carpet!!!

Ladies - please, at all costs - PLEASE avoid doing Zumba on carpet.

It is extremely dangerous and a big no no!!!

Zumba is based on Latin rhythms - a lot of pivots, and most instructors also throw in hip hop which is tough on the knees.

Last week - my stepdaughter - who is 19 - popped her knee out of her knee cap and is now in a brace with crutches because she was doing Zumba on carpet at Lucille Roberts.

Zumba should be done on a wooden floor designed specifically for group fitness or dance. It's not worth the life long injuries you can endure!!!! Chat Icon

Seriously? 50 views and not one person could just send some wishes to my injured stepdaughter who now is going to spend the summer on crutches and has serious injuries it may take years to recover from? Chat Icon

Re: PSA RE: Zumba and carpet!!!

Just saw this, thanks for the warning! My stepdaughter broke her arm last month, so I know how tough it is to watch them in pain and not be able to help. She was lucky and got the cast off right at the start of the summer. I feel very bad that your SD has to spend most of the summer on crutches. Hope her recovery is quicker than expected Chat Icon

Thank you! I don't mind if people don't respond to the warning - I put it out there just to be aware - doesn't warrant a response, but to read that someone's kid popped their knee out without any response is a little odd to me! Chat Icon

Sorry to hear about your SD's arm!!! How old is she? Do you ever go on the step parent board? I am rarely there! Chat Icon

I know, there's not much action on that board! She is 9 years old and fell while dancing at her communion party, white dress and all! 6 weeks in a cast, and she's so happy to have it off now!

Re: PSA RE: Zumba and carpet!!!

I was just talking about this with someone the other day. She was telling me how the classes are all carpet and thought it was odd dancing on carpet. I didn't realize such risks! Hopefully your daughter heals quickly!!!!

I hope she has a fast and full recovery. I popped my knee out a few years ago. It took 8 weeks of pt but I had an almost full recovery. Make sure she takes the pt seriously. It will help her so much Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can't imagine doing Zumba on carpet.

Hopefully it is an easy recovery for her.
Did anyone mention anything to the gym yet about the dangers of doing the class on carpet?

Re: PSA RE: Zumba and carpet!!!

Which one is she going to? Because I am pretty sure that the LR in Plainview has carpet for all their classes.

I did not try their class yet. I may not now that you mention the possible injury. Makes sense!

Hope you SD recovers quickly! So not fun for the Summer to be in crutches.

I found out ALL LR's have carpet!

I was told duct tape on your shoes will help on carpet - to make them less sticky on the bottom!

Ouch! That's horrible. I hope she recovers soon.

I can't believe the instructors did know any better.
