Re: Counter Tops...

We got granite. Fabricator is on Rt. 109 just east of Rt. 110 (can't remember the name). We chose them because they could fabricate without a seam, it comes with a lifetime sealer (so far, so good and we haven't had to reseal them) and they got it done fast - template on Friday, installed on Monday. Granite yard is European Granite on Rt. 110.

Here's some photos...

We went with granite because I like that it's natural and that's it's different everywhere you look. I like Silestone too but it's a little to predictable for my taste.

We are going granite ouro brazil to be exact(kinda tuscan looking to go with our theme). We are probably going with Marathon Marble & Granite in Holbrook. He gave us a great quote which includes the ogee edge and bumpouts in front of the stove and sink.

Re: Counter Tops...

We did granite as well.

We got ours at a granite yard in Brooklyn through a contractor friend of ours who got it for cost.

Re: Counter Tops...

I am going to give my usual granite comment. Whatever you do, don't get black galaxy! That's what I have and it shows every drip, drop, streak. Breathe near it and you will see it.

Here's the equation: 3 kids + DH who doesn't obsess over cleaning it like I do = Me+ Glass Plus bottle permanenty within reach.

I do love granite though just not this color. Trust me, if it's wasn't so pricey to begin with, I would rip it out and put in formica. I'm dead serious.

Re: Counter Tops...

We are doing Granite too - I like the idea of Silestone and that it is mold and mildew resistant but Silestone tends to not be glossy and that is the look Danielle and I are looking for

Isn't there a yearly maintenance you have to do with granite?

This is actually the exact reason why we are leaning towards Silestone..

We arent fans of the glossy...

Re: Counter Tops...

I have both. Silestone in my kitchen, granite in my bathroom.

Love both but for the kitchen love the silestone. No maintence, doesnt stain, I put pots directly from my stove on the counter with no issues, I just wipe it with windex or clorex anywhere spray and it looks great all the tme.
It was in the house when we bought it so I am not sure where htey got the counter.

THe bathroom we got at stone edge in smithtown

ETA: our silestone is glossy.

Re: Counter Tops...

We haven't bought our counter top yet, but currently, we're leaning towards Silestone, after doing lots of research on pluses and minuses for dozens of materials.

We have Granite and we got it from Fortune Stone in Frankin Square. They have a booth at Tri-County and they will come to your house and take all measurements with samples for you to choose from. You can also go into the storefront (on Hempstead Tpke) to pick out the color - they have TONS! Their prices were the lowest we found and we priced out a bunch of places.

Thanks...

Is it as glossy as granite?

The one we really like has a slight gloss to it but it's not as glossy as granite...

Re: Counter Tops...

We went to All Granite and Marble Corp in Jersey, got granite for our L-Shaped Kitchen and an island for 2700- they also threw in a heavy duty nice sink.

We have silestone ebony pearl. We ordered it through consumers this past fall. The price was pretty comparable to granite if not a little bit more. We liked the more even pattern to it. We are very happy with it :)
